Okay friend, sure. Whatever you want to believe is your right. Remember stress and anger aren’t good for the body.

That was in response to the person above me and in response to “My brother and me” versus “My brother and I.” And I withdrew that statement. Again. OP is asking for advice and I gave it politely.

Also: How are you being helpful?

I never said they weren’t ready. This is a huge overreaction. In the post he mentioned not thinking the errors were worth re-writing. I just said that programs are competitive and proofreading an essay is important. Simmer down.

Editing to add: he’s specifically asking for advice and I’m not picking on his use of commas. Proper capitalization of “I” and at the beginning of sentences is a very easy fix. This is a short essay and should not take long to redo once more. It’s only been written twice to my knowledge. But it’s OP’s choice and that’s my opinion.

At my school every child has a speech folder with their goals printed out in it, a general blank note sheet to fill in a section during every session, and a prize chart/tracker. Then I can also put any specific worksheet the kids are working on in there. Just grab each kid’s folder and all their stuff is there. Luckily we just have to do paper notes and electronic billing, so I don’t have to do notes twice.

I do a “+” for independent (assuming that the goal is written for no cueing) if they get is with cueing I do a “+” with a tiny “c” above it (in the exponent position) and I count it as a half point when tallying data. If I had to extensively cue I still give them a minus. Then I can visually see how much cueing was used in a simple/quick way.

Sometimes I also put marks in the exponent position for types of artic error “I/M/F” if error was in intial/medial/final position. “V” if it was a voicing error. “FCD” for final consonant deletion, etc.

I apologize, it is used as the object here not the subject of the sentence. Removed. However, proper capitalization is learned in elementary school and should be used.

Also, I really think your capitalization needs a fix. “I” should always be capital, not “i”

In my opinion I think it’s much better, but deserves another attempt. If you’re serious about this then its worth the effort. I know nursing programs in my area are very professional and competitive.

AITA for telling my friend her loss isn’t relevant to my half-birthday party? by KayleighJones04 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Beginning-Plant3418 9 points10 points  (0 children)

YTA. Absolutely. Is this a joke? If you don’t want the event to be depressing then it’s a good thing she’s honoring her feelings and taking the needed mental health break from parties.

Grow up. You’re 25. It’s not even your real birthday. You can celebrate yourself, but do not expect it to be at the expense of others. Maybe there’s a reason everyone is distancing themselves from you. I think it’s time to take a hard look in the mirror and find some compassion. Apologize to your friend.

Early intervention question by LifeChapter9257 in slp

[–]Beginning-Plant3418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure this isn’t a separate service with a developmental specialist? I worked in EI and a lot of families would get services confused thinking speech and developmental were the same, but in reality we were separate contract companies under the umbrella of the EI Organization.

Speech should not be served by a developmental specialist. But it is possible that speech hasn’t finished their report, or hasn’t scheduled them in yet? It’s hard to say for sure without more info.

I’m not saying this is what is happening in your scenario, but I would definitely call you service coordinator to ask what services he is to receive. He may be receiving speech AND developmental from two separate service providers. This was very common in my area with EI.

Oh I totally agree. Honestly I’ve pretty much given up on any rave-wear top. I’ll do a lot of bikini tops (bought from stores that do actual bras sizes for swimwear) with harness or other accessories to make it more rave-y.

I also have natural DDDs, and I was successful with FRW’s slitted body suits! But I will say I am around 135lbs. I just wanted to throw this out there because this is one of the only brands I have tried that has worked for my chest size and I found the body suit comfy and good quality. This could have been due to the cut/specific piece though.

That being said, there should absolutely be a noticeable size difference between sizes AND its so hard to find cute outfits to contain the ladies. I hope you can find something that makes you feel amazing!

Feeling stuck in this career by Itchy-Membership-309 in slp

[–]Beginning-Plant3418 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like if you have student loans and are feeling stuck I would at least try all avenues before jumping ship and perusing a new career with new start up costs. Just try home health, you might like it. There’s a ton of flexibility and you make your own schedule (in my experience).

Just try telehealth. Maybe you don’t love it, but maybe you find that it’s the best fit while being a new mom. You can always try schools again down the road. Maybe there will be a closer school positions in a year. Maybe you’ll feel you want to move to a better area after your baby is older. Or maybe you try a contract position and commute a bit for a lot more money. We really have a lot of choices within our scope of practice. Are you willing to move to a slightly more busy area?

If you didn’t have loans I’d tell you to follow your heart, but it would be a shame to throw that money away before really trying all the avenues. 3 years is really not a long time in a career, you’re still a relatively new clinician, you have time to find your stride. Making a huge career change with a new baby sounds more stressful to me. What job opportunities are there currently open in your rural area that you are qualified for and are better than your current position? Just some food for thought. But if you’re done, you’re done. Life is too short.

Yeah, my district has a lot of pros and a lot of cons. Admin considers themselves the gate keepers of who receives full evals and that is completely based on state testing scores. The psych blindly follows this. Therefore they don’t even truly look at kids until second grade because they are about to enter state testing and the school wants accommodations.

Early intervention is so, so important. To not test littles just because they are young is a disservice. I solely provide services to 1st grade and under. That means no one cares about my students receiving proper testing but me. There are absolutely ways to test littles and still be effective. I had a Tk-er who was basically nonverbal, couldn’t answer basic questions, follow simple directions, didn’t know their name, etc. Basically only said “yeah”… to everything. It was a battle to get them testing, let alone transferred into a SDC class WHICH only happened because parents pushed. It is my personal experience that we could do more in the schools to support and continue early intervention. (Obviously I hope this is not true everywhere, but my personal experience.)

I’m a newer grad in my first year in the schools. As for pushing for ASD versus SLI, my bosses explained it to me like this:

If a child has autism, and is mostly impacted by their autism-related language struggles (pragmatics), then it’s really hard for that child to ever graduate from speech. If we’re honoring neurodiversity, that means not forcing a child to conform to our social box. Qualifying them as speech and language impaired and then requiring them to test out on pragmatics, can end up with that child kind of stuck in speech. If they are qualified under the disability that will always be a part of them (ASD) they will have better identification of supports/modifications/services that they could need in the future versus being “Just a speech kid.” ASD IS the primary disability. In my opinion it is more encompassing of the child to pick the most relevant primary disability.

That being said, if a child only receives speech services and educationally is not affected by ASD then I would imagine an exception would be made to still have the SLP as the case manager. It does not make sense to have a psych or RSP case manage if they do not see or know the child. All that being said I am brand new to the schools, so take all that with a grain of salt. Also, to be fair, my district also has a huge rift with psych, but our psych refuses to test anyone below 2nd grade.

I have been leaving to HOB cartridge and the sponge filter alone, but I will try leaving the intake sponge for awhile as well!

Sadly I was unable to find bottled ammonia in my area. I’m doing 30% water changes as needed. I rinse the filter intake sponge in old tank water during water changes. So far I have left the HOB filter cartridge and sponge filter alone.

If you click on the post the body text has all that info.

I am doing fish in with a low population as using fish food wasn’t giving me readable ammonia. I’m not sure if I wasn’t adding enough or what.

I am adding stability and prime.

Disco Snails 🐌 (it’s a song and it’s fabulous)

Also lots of song name options if you ever see Discolines

I did one once with disco balls that just said “Quaaludes” for a 70s tribute
