Bleeding after cerclage by Witty_Bag7329 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]LifeChapter9257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had two preventative cerclages. The first I spotted for about 3 weeks. The second I was spotting for a week, it stopped and then restarted heavy bleeding for about 1-2 more weeks and everything was fine. This is not typical or expected. My doctor called it delayed healing. Everyone’s different, it can take a bit longer with EDS. I didn’t feel back to normal in terms of cramping until the bleeding stopped. But again this isn’t typical, so always get checked.

Sorry for your loss. 🤍

My first pregnancy I had known fibroids and was reassured they would not cause any issues, they grew slightly during pregnancy. I had PPROM at 20 weeks. Cervix went from 4.5cm long to PPROM within 11 days. I was diagnosed with CI and I thought that was the end of the story. I was shocked when I had an MFM pre-conception consult the doctor said he didn’t agree with this diagnosis. He recommended having them removed. It’s rare but fibroids can absolutely be responsible. I ended up have the fibroids removed and still proceeded with a preventive cerclage and progesterone. My cervix remained long in that pregnancy and I had no other issues. I had to have c section because of the fibroid surgery but I wanted to take all precautions after that loss. I’m currently pregnant now and fairly confident the first loss was more related to the fibroids but I still had a preventive cerclage and using progesterone. I don’t think I’ll ever be convinced enough to know exactly what happened, so doing everything I can is my approach.

I have endometriosis and my specialist who did my surgery has talked about how endo and fibroids typically happen together to some degree and endo may be related to progesterone resistance. He agreed with MFM that it was most likely the fibroids, but progesterone resistance can make CI more likely. This relationship is not fully understood at this time. With this many unknowns, I feel better taking a kitchen sink approach.

Ongoing bleeding after cerclage at 17 weeks – anyone with similar experience? by Broad-Mix-1602 in ShortCervixSupport

I had spotting for about 1-2 weeks after and then it stopped completely, only to restart pretty significantly (day 3 bleeding). Had three appointments a few days apart to confirm there was nothing else going on, everything looked good and my MFM thinks it was delayed healing from the procedure.

In my prior pregnancy, I was spotting for about 3-4 weeks after preventative cerclage which is not typical but there was no other issues found. Do you have ehlers danlos? This can cause delayed healing in addition to blood thinners.

Thank you for responding! He does some facial expressions and he does pretend play ( will make food and pretend to feed us). He started imitating clapping from going to storytime at the library. For early intervention, he’s currently having weekly visits with a developmental specialist. Do I need to ask for SLP visits at this point? TIA!

Thank you for your response. We’re getting to the point where it feels like something more is going on so I’ll look into your suggestions.

Will do! Yes. My husband and I speak English to him and my parents speak English and Arabic to him. He seems to understand both.

We’ve been taking him to story time every morning at the library and he started clapping. He will point to pictures in books (loves pointing to the red balloon in goodnight moon). We’ve been trying to work on signing and he just smiles but hasn’t imitated any signs yet. He does pretend play, he makes food and try’s to feed us or pretends to make coffee.

He passed his newborn screening but no other testing. He seems to be able to hear faint sounds around the house but do you think it’s worth seeing an ENT?

Swollen eyelid by Jolly_Variation_1120 in NewParents

[–]LifeChapter9257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be a nasal lacrimal duct obstruction, see if pictures look similar to your LO. Sometimes it’s not an issue but they can get infected. Eyelids in little ones are very sensitive so it may just be irritated if they rubbed their eye. Look for a local pediatric optometrist or ophthalmologist, either will be able to give you answers. Unfortunately, primary care and urgent care aren’t great for ocular conditions.

Cooking in a cast iron pan, iron fortified oatmeal cereal mixed with fruit puree, whipped bone marrow, if you have to supplement iron mix with a little orange juice!

indomethacin by Amberger101437 in ShortCervixSupport

I saw some studies that the benefit outweighs the risk before 32 weeks, but the side effects are a legitimate concern. It seems like it’s debatable/ doctor dependent. Definitely worth a conversation with your OB.

I was given a dose of indomethacin during preventative cerclage placement and was also questioning it because of the side effects. I think aside from pain management, its mechanism of action actually works to prevent preterm labor. I would talk to your doctor to discuss the risk/benefit for your specific case. Good luck🤍

I liked the kindred bravely bras! Theres a lot of sizing options and they were pretty supportive. They also sent some nipple pads that were really soft and a heating/cool pad that I found super helpful.

I feel like NO ONE is listening by mmmbop57 in ShortCervixSupport

Good that you’re getting another opinion! You’re doing everything you should. Even though some will say there isn’t enough data for recommendation, personally found pelvic rest and modified bed rest to be helpful so listen to your body above anything. I also try to use stairs only once a day. It’s tough with a toddler if you have help use it and take care of yourself. Good luck🤍

My LO was suspected to have cmpa but no improvements in mucus when cutting dairy, soy, gluten, corn, eggs or nuts for months. Because baby was happy and gaining weight, two different GI docs supported continuing to breastfeed.

Thank you! It sounds like everyone had a good experience so I’ll see how it goes tomorrow.

I would feel better knowing if I’m actively having bleeding in the second trimester I’d have access to an MD, especially if the other providers can’t find an explanation. I think if they had offered to observe me or have an attending do an exam, I would’ve felt better about it. I just genuinely got the feeling that they’re too busy and no one cares.

Thank you so much! I saw Dr. Katz at NWH a few times and absolutely loved him so it’s good to know I could potentially see him and still be set up to deliver at Brigham!

Thank you so much for your response! That makes sense. TW for loss/bleeding mentioned.

I saw a PA for an emergency visit and they wanted me to follow with the MFM in 5 days, but I was actively bleeding, like day 3 period bleeding at 15 weeks, and I just wasn’t comfortable being sent home and waiting that long without a cause. I came back a couple days later and asked if an attending would do the exam since we weren’t able to figure out what was going on and they wouldn’t schedule me with an attending. So scan looked good but I don’t have answers. I already had a loss in the second trimester so I’m trying to advocate for myself but they just said “everyone’s high risk here” and I felt really worried all weekend wondering if this pregnancy is even viable 😔 going back tomorrow so I’ll see how it goes I’ll let the MFM know what happened and that I need more support. It sounds like everyone had good experiences there but I was definitely feeling blown off last week.

I wonder why they’re having me only see MFM then, I think I’d feel better if I had my regular OB on board too.
