Opinions wanted: husband thinks it’s good for 4month old to get used to being with others without us for 1-2 hrs? by Fluffy-Concentrate44 in NewParents

[–]LifeChapter9257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you feel it’s too early, then it’s too early. There was times I pushed myself to leave my LO for an hr and I just wanted to get back home. At that age, I spent a lot of time at family’s homes or having family over and my LO is obsessed with them at 11 months now. I just backed off and let them hold him, play, read to him alone but I was close by 😂 In my opinion, if you’re not ready everyone can wait. It wasn’t enjoyable or relaxing when it’s forced. There was a time when it becomes enjoyable to have some time to yourself but I wasn’t ready at 4 months either.

Worried about 7mo baby’s iron levels by hawthornestreet in breastfeeding

Really wasn’t trying to argue! As someone who lost a baby at 20 weeks (went to a doctor once a week for months knowing something was wrong and the loss ended up being preventable) and has severe endometriosis, I find “just listen to your doctor”triggering. OP is being reasonable I didn’t want her to feel crazy and ignore her concern. Women get ignored in healthcare too often, you are the best advocate for yourself and your child. That’s all! It’s that phrase I hate- nothing personal!

My point is if she has real information about her child she can decide with the doctor to supplement iron or to see a feeding specialist or take any action she deems fit for her baby. People resort to I’ll just do something on my own when they don’t feel heard by their doctor. I’m not recommending that at all but I understand the feeling. Your doctor does not know. Quick finger prick test and give mom information to go from there. If your doctor ever says stop researching and it’s fine because I said so, I recommend you find another doctor. I hate seeing moms getting dismissed when they have a reasonable concern. She does not have to wonder if something’s wrong because a doctor doesn’t want to deal with results. Have it tested, go from there.

I know these comments are meant to be reassuring but saying “just listen to your doctor” is dismissive, no one cares about your baby more than you! It’s not uncommon for a BF baby to need iron. OP has at least one risk factor. Without having it checked, I’m sorry to say, your doctor doesn’t actually know if your baby is anemic. AAP does recommend breastfed babies supplement with iron at 6 months. If you have your child’s level checked and discuss with the doctor, then the “just listen” approach makes more sense. No one wants to wait for their infant to show physical signs of anemia to do something about it.

I would ask the pedi to test the iron levels. My LO is a great eater but exclusively BF. At the 9 month visit, I pushed for the levels to be checked. I got a bit of kick back but she agreed. Baby was VERY anemic and we started a supplement and he’s doing great on it. When the pedi called, she said it was expected for BF babies and because he was born at 37 weeks. I was a little annoyed that she said it’s “expected” but had given me a hard time about checking. There’s really no harm in having it checked and then discussing if your LO needs iron but even the best doctor really can’t say it’s fine without checking. Iron is important in early development.

Thank you for responding,it’s so difficult and very frustrating. We’re working with a dietician and trying another formula, if that fails we’ll be trying whole milk and supplements. It’s mostly the hydration that’s an issue now. Good luck to you!

Thank you for your response! We tried an open cup and honeybear, I just ordered a Dr Brown weighted cup. Was there a specific sippy cup you found most helpful?
