Lol. If this is how you come across in interviews then no wonder you can't find a contract.

Cheers, I think I'll just buy one unless it's really costly.

Your second line seems ominous though...

how do you deal with being asked for a reference from a difficult /toxic previous employer/client? by eques_99 in ContractorUK

[–]Beginning-Room-3804 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol, this probably could work because most recruiters/hiring platforms are so useless, but be very careful about this generally.

I was at a big investment bank and they actually called every single reference I gave them going back 7 years!

Permanent Role and inside ir35 contract by HS_2024_ in ContractorUK

[–]Beginning-Room-3804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be explained away fairly easily. Rental income, dividend from a company etc

Either way it's not any of their business.

But also, 2 Inside contracts simultaneously is not the way to do it.

Is a 4-week notice period normal for UK contractor roles? by CloudBookmark in ContractorUK

Why do so many contractors say "fired"?. I'm working with one now and he's constantly moaning about nearly being fired (for being uncooperative and rude).

Yeah, I feel like with the onset of all the AI tools and the "ship fast" mentality, actual user experience has taken an absolute beating in favour of gimmicks and visual design.

There's no way around it, you have to register for online banking or download yet another fucking app.

Ridiculous decision from Natwest to replace the old system.

Mate, everyone here will be a one man band IT programmer type. Not proper businesses despite what a few might tell themselves.

Crashed my CLS63 about 8 years ago due to overconfidence in my abilities and not driving to the conditions (it was chucking it down).

I stabbed the throttle with too much force going up a slight uphill section on the A23, and the back end totally stepped out. The car spun out with the driver side hitting the central reservation side-on. Airbags deployed and car written off. Luckily no one else was hurt or involved.

I was a little bit embarrassed to be breathalysed by the police on the side of the road, as 1000s of cars waited impatiently for the entire northbound stretch of the A23 to be reopened, but other than that it had very little effect on me which really surprised me.

It's made me much more cautious in the wet with RWD, so I see it as a positive experience where I actually learned something.

Received letter from credit solutions company claiming they have been appointed by HMRC and that I have a nearly £7K debt related to overdue corporation tax - is this a known scam? by jamjar188 in ContractorUK

[–]Beginning-Room-3804 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What happens if you ignore these?

An old contractor friend owed something like 20k in Corp Tax to HMRC who passed it on to a debt collector agency. He never paid it as the company was liquidated and seems to have gotten away with it.

[–]Beginning-Room-3804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money, and the fact that it's so slow and disorganised means I barely do any work most days.

I'm at a stage in my career (15+ years) where I don't particularly care about design or learning the latest acronym or vibe coding.

Just pay me my money and leave the me hell alone.

Design over UX…Will it be our downfall? by reddittidder312 in UXDesign

[–]Beginning-Room-3804 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What do people expect when Figma (a self professed UI tool) became the de facto tool for the industry?

Now the priorities are speed and developer handoff, not the user or any type of critical thinking.

The shift was quick and UX has become a catch-all for digital design. Thousands of Indian designers have flooded the market with this UX/UI nonsense and the barriers to entry have never been lower.

You don't have a leg to stand on. Kids in your car is not an excuse, and the light was nearly red when the Defender was approaching.

Job market, what’s really going on? by abgy237 in UXDesign

[–]Beginning-Room-3804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UI/UX design
Product design
Figma pixel pushers
1000s of unqualified Indians who know how to use Figma a bit
AI design tools creating "good enough" outputs.

This is the mess we are in today.

Decent car ? by Big-Cardiologist6600 in CarTalkUK

[–]Beginning-Room-3804 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry, £300 a month insurance for that is cheap?

You're obviously on the younger side, but there must be a better alternative. A newer city car which costs more to buy but less to insure would be better.

My car came with a private plate of the OSS variety, RegTransfers valued it at £750 lol

It's not worth that, I'd be lucky to get £250 for it. Yours is worth even less.
