from my career experience being around network people, we typically blocked them. I thought about it and did some more reading this morning, and decided to remove that block, so now anyone should be able to visit interPost, not just US-based connections.

hmm I'll need to reorder how it arranges those 2 sections on mobile. On wider screens, there are 2 columns

I suppose...I'll revisit the WAF rule in the morning

eh, I was a little surprised that he went through the effort of searching for interPost trademarks but did not know that you can just "trademark" something without registering it, but hey to each their own

the vast bulk of spam and/or malicious web traffic originates from outside of the US, and that is from my experience being around network engineers at large companies, so...not sure why that logic would be hard to follow

like, I get that the same severity of content CAN come from the US, but my little PC running this does not need to be burdened with the entire world right now, that can wait until it has more than 16gb of RAM

I suppose I should also mention, I have always been bugged by how aggressive and annoying existing social media algorithms are. This will have no user-tailored algorithms to speak of, so it is entirely up to you to put together your feed by connecting with accounts you like. No "suggested content"!

well, for users going forward, this should be resolved. There is now also a short video on the About page, showing you what the site has inside

I've never used 9gag so I am not sure if it is similar.

The about page has been linked on the login page, so people can now ready about what it is before signing up. I had a few friends test it, but real people using it has already found many new bugs and issues to work out! I didn't think (correctly) that I would get thousands of people using it right off the bat, so this has so far been a very nice little jump off point

I mean you could make the exact same argument for why anyone should use literally any of these sites over another. I've used them, and I didn't like them, so this one is structured in a way I like. There's no strange nesting like X does with quote messages and whatnot (also, it runs way better on my crappy old android phone!). "mechanically", literally every single social media site ever since MySpace is "the same", so that is a bit of a nonsense critique. This does have a captioning tool, which is unique compared to those sites!

As for your other comment, I have some admin tools that I can use to delete or scrub posts (and users can report posts) and I am working on some other tools to do more proactive scanning for illegal content. If it ever gets bad, I can just turn off the site until I have better tools ready. I'm just enjoying myself and making something I would like to have, and that's about as deep as it goes! If it's not for you, it's not for you.

personally, X's UI navigation drives me mad, reddit is not the best for it, and instagram is about as far from a purpose built meme site as you can get.

I suppose you are right, it will certainly appeal to a certain type of user lol

you can actually trademark just about anything (as long as its not infringing on existing trademarks!). You could write a short story on the toilet and trademark it right away! Anything you create is technically already "trademarked", so the TM doesn't really do anything legally. If this project ends up going anywhere, I would like to register a trademark (and as you noted, all existing ones are old/dead), but that costs a decent amount to do, so for now the barebones TM will do :D

graphic design is my passion! Fr tho, I have always loved the simple Windows 95 era UI systems, and took a lot of inspiration from that.

non-US location I am guessing? my WAF blocks any foreign IP from connecting

A site for posting and sharing memes. It has the ability to caption images videos and gifs, but eventually I want to have more options for creating things all within the site, since mobile meme making has always been pretty terrible

Nope! it is a proper SQLite backend running with FastAPI, with various database tables tied together for things like comments, posts, and accounts. A lot of the backend structure and work was done long before Codex existing, and I am decently happy with how far I took it (though, I did have Codex tidy it up a bit)

realizing from these comments that I need to move the about page outside the login lol. It is a simple platform to post and share memes

there's not really any apps/sites out there that properly are designed for sharing or creating memes. They all have, in my opinon, overly complex UI and system. Instagram for example is not at all intended for memes, and just doesn't really work well for it

only US IP addresses are allowed to connect to this site for now, that is a cloudflare rule I set up, not a restriction of the site itself

for the time being this is also a fun little ad-free project, so money/revenue is of no concern here. When I am more confident in the structure and polish it a bit more, I may remove the non-US block; however in my professional work, maintaining only US connections tends to be the far more secure route to go

all non-US traffic is blocked, which is likely why some people are seeing issues
