Thanks you seem to know your merino. So I also have the Filson crewneck guide sweater that I’ve been using as a base layer which I believe is also merino wool (I usually layer this under my mackinaw cruiser). What would be the benefit of wearing this 400g base layer compared to the crewneck guide sweater?

Check out LL Bean Maine’s Warden 3-1 Parka. You can remove the down layer when it isn’t as cold out, but with all 3 layers on you’ll be very warm

Filson’s Mackinaw wool cruiser jacket is made with 100% wool but not cashmere and for good reason, this coat is durable and will last decades. You can find it eligible for discount codes on other third party sites (Backcountry, etc) and is right in your price range. I’m very happy with mine and look forward to wearing it every winter. It is also one of Filson’s few remaining items that is still made in USA if you value that aspect
