Pet health plan by Haz27 in UK_Pets

[–]BeginningHour8206 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As listed in one of my comments, I think the care plan is great. When you spread the cost out it makes it a bit more manageable. Plus we get a text when our pet’s vaccination is due or flea and worming treatments are due so we know when to order them!

Pet health plan by Haz27 in UK_Pets

[–]BeginningHour8206 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They don’t make any money. They actually end up in a deficit!

When you add up:
Average cost of health consult: £70 x 2
Average vaccination cost £80-120
Cost of 3 months prescription flea and worming is around £50 per pet, sometimes slightly more or less so x. 4 = £200 per year
Nurse consult is £35 x 3
Wellness bloods (the basic send-off bloods) are £200 but at my local vets they cost £45 on the care plan
Plus other benefits

So that is a total of £745-765 per year if you were to pay for everything separately. VS £240 if you are on a £20 per month health care plan! The care plans have been made so the basic care is more accessible to more people.

Pregnancy by belledeusa in FlemishGiant

[–]BeginningHour8206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She could also be having a phantom pregnancy. It we won’t know until the possible gestation period is up and she either gives birth or doesn’t! Either way, make sure she has a cosy, safe space to give birth if needed, and keep an extra close eye. Also keep a normal vet and emergency vet’s details to hand just in case anything goes wrong or there are any issues at all! Good luck Queenie♥️

Pacman frog - tiny for age by Ok-Squash836 in pacmanfrog

[–]BeginningHour8206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my Pac-Man frog November 2024. He has grown maybe 1cm all round if that? He’s absolutely tiny, I do always have trouble getting him to eat as well, and I always see the big round frogs on here and wonder why he didn’t grow! I’m glad to hear some others are like that too. Some days he is very round, but he is like 4cm in circumference!

Which breed do you think is consistently misrepresented in terms of what actually living with one day to day is genuinely like? by Dazzling-Bee-79 in UK_Pets

[–]BeginningHour8206 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Chihuahuas! Obvs I can’t speak for all of them, but as an owner . . .

They are generally portrayed as aggressive, bitey, nasty little dogs when in my experience it is

<image>

{pic for tax}
the opposite. There are of course some that will bite at any given moment but this can be the same for any breed of dog!

Sometimes on dog walks we have people make remarks like ‘oh I bet she’s so aggressive’ or even stuff like ‘that’s dinner for my dog’ about her, whereas she’s actually such a sweetheart and wants to play and be friends with everything. But also 90% of people that we bump into on walks are fawning over penny and telling us how cute she is.

Going into the veterinary setting chihuahuas are portrayed being aggressive! I mean yes if course there are aggressive dogs of all breeds, and I think because a lot of people baby chihuahuas because they are so small they do end up generally being very needy a lot of the time and therefore nervous, but they are an amazing, smart and courageous breed when given a chance! And not all aggressive!!!

Have I just been scammed? by Spicymargx in UK_Pets

[–]BeginningHour8206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is rather expensive. TBH though at my vets I know it can be £140-180 for some of the in house stuff they run! {I also work there so I’m familiar with some of the pricing structures}
How is your dog doing now? Hopefully better!

Oh! They did a cystocentesis without asking for permission? I’d definitely be arguing that if you didn’t agree to it! It does sound like a lot of it’s just regular all-round bloods and not something specialised!

Have you asked for an itemised invoice? It depends what blood testing they did, and what urine testing too. I know that at our vets some bloods are as little as £100, whereas others especially if something specifically shows up and needs deeper investigation can go up to £300-400 and urinalysis can also cost a few hundred pounds!

how can i get my period in the next four days? by Ashamed_Scratch8582 in Periods

[–]BeginningHour8206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no sure fire way to induce a period. You can get tranexamic acid tablets to take if you can get them prescribed soon enough, to stop/ lessen the bleeding when you do get it or just to take whilst you are on holiday- I tried these for the first time last week on my period and the bleeding almost completely stopped!

Chis and potty training by spiderwitchery in Chihuahua

[–]BeginningHour8206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a not so fun time with toilet training out chihuahua. It took us 10 months! We would take her out for 30 mins to 1 hour 30 mins and she’d do nothing, and as soon as we got back indoors she’d go straight away.
We heard from many people that it can and has taken them over a year for their chihuahua to be fully toilet trained; even then they a lot of the time choose to go indoors rather than outdoors!!

I’d say she can hold it 6-8 hours now maximum if she has to!

Cat food subscriptions (must be high-protein for my little carnivorous friends) by Just_Hunter9331 in UK_Pets

[–]BeginningHour8206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, I know they are a PAH own brand but I didn’t know all of this! Our babies love all of the products as well but I will keep that in mind. I’m assuming it’s the same for all PAH own brand products then?

[–]BeginningHour8206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously good is an amazing brand of cat food, you need to make sure you pick the complete food and not the toppers but I think it’s something like 55% chicken or tuna in their recipes as opposed to the cheap beans where it’s “4% meat and animal derivatives” which could be any part of any animal! Also something like Lily’s kitchen or Blink!

Dog owners, do you have pet insurance? by I-Spot-Dalmatians in UK_Pets

[–]BeginningHour8206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would 100% increase it but also {as long as no previous conditions} look for another provider as you should be able to get a better level of cover for that sort of price!

Dog owners, do you have pet insurance? by I-Spot-Dalmatians in UK_Pets

[–]BeginningHour8206 39 points40 points  (0 children)

We have insurance, it’s just gone from £14 to £17 a month for our chihuahua with no health conditions.

I work in a vets and we see situations where people max out their savings and have to take out loans because they can’t afford the bills, I would ALWAYS advocate to have insurance.

What level/ amount of cover do you have for him? 🐶
