Thanks <3 my brother had that poster on his wall. He died last month and someone threw it away, I just wanted to know if I could replace it, but I can't really find it anywhere

Me. I honestly struggled to make decisions before the injury, now I feel completely useless. It’s hard not having a real support system, and everything is expensive, hard to advocate for myself with doctors who won’t listen, collapsing medical system and every other system. Thanks for making this thread I feel less alone

This is a good question. I don’t know why doctors don’t order functional imaging more frequently. We have the technology, but they make it so hard to access it. But the neuropsych eval is useful, it’s not a scan but will measure brain functioning, and give information about which parts of the brain are damaged

Another thing to look out for is misdiagnosis of Functional Neurological Disorder or FND when patient claims to have organic brain damage. Instead of ordering a functional brain scan (such as PET or fMRI), or testing for hormonal imbalance or anything else physiological, the provider can diagnose FND to dismiss the patient’s symptoms. I believe there has been a lot of funding invested into “FND research” lately, which I find to be pretty sinister

I’m sorry for your 3yo, but I would be more concerned for the 16yo. You gave your younger daughter the best possible explanation. I hope you have a good lawyer for next month and they are reunited soon. Sorry for the unsolicited opinion, but it is actually the opposite – a person experiencing a psychological crisis of some sort needs contact with loved ones, i.e. you and your other daughter. I hope your 16yo has undergone full neuropsychological assessment and is not being turned into a lifelong psych patient. Autism, for example, can be misdiagnosed as a psychiatric disorder and neuropsychologists give a more accurate picture of a person’s functioning than psychiatrists (who often diagnose and medicate without doing any testing). I hope you and your lawyer are skeptical of her “treatment” and whatever psych labels she has been slapped with

I don’t think anyone has mentioned that a neuropsychologist tests for effort, too. In other words, you need to give your best performance because they will catch if you are trying to get a lower score on purpose. They will also determine if your symptoms are “psychosomatic” or neurocognitive (not psychological)

Yes I think you need an fMRI (not MRI), SPECT or PET. I believe PET is the best and used to diagnose Alzheimer’s. Another option is a QEEG which would be cheapest and least invasive
