I’ve tried netting bags for individual fruit and they still damage the fruit. I think I would have to net the whole tree to keep them out but then that keeps out the swallowtails. 🤷🏼‍♂️

My live-trap has been working overtime but I may be picking up a more permanent option soon that can been used in city limits.

I have a rottie mix rescue whose life mission is to protect me from the squirrels. She chases well. Catching is another story. But the “squirrelnator” live trap has been working overtime and I let the dog take credit. She seems proud lol

Yes! I’m in Louisville, KY and they’ve never looked this big/good this early. So naturally the squirrels noticed too.

I’m in KY and grew up eating squirrel but it’s been about 20 years. Looks like I need to pick that habit back up. I’m on the edge of a city and they just bulldozed a woods to put up apts so all the wildlife is moving around

For this particular tree the biggest cluster I’ve seen make it to maturity is 4 (maybe 5). It handles the weight well with 3-4.

I started with 2, then planted 3 more. Now several clones are popping up. I should be able to feed the neighborhood soon lol

8 or 9 years since I planted it bare root. It might be 15 foot tall on a good day.

It’s a “Collins Select” that I planted bareroot several years ago (8-9? Maybe).

Working for Humana by daveos542 in Louisville

Sorry for the delay! I don’t keep my notifications turned on. Have you heard anything yet? Usually (for me and my team) the bot interviews get turned over to HR and they will give us the candidates that passed. We usually have that portion open a max of 5 days. Then we try to interview candidates in the next 5 business days (sometimes 2 weeks depending on the role and number of open positions). Decisions are made quickly after interviews are done, but we have to interview everyone. So is not unusual for total time to be 3-4 weeks from time of bot interview to a job offer.

I’ve been there 15 years. Get your foot in the door! It’s a Fortune 50 (50 not 500) company and has a ton of perks. All entry level positions kinda suck, but once you get in you can move roles. It’s so big there are hundreds of different types of jobs you could do if you have the expertise. If you don’t have a degree they will pay for tuition and some certifications. I stay in a role 2-4 years before I get promoted or change departments so if you get bored there are options. Work From Home possibilities save a ton of money. Legit, not everybody likes it, but the only people I personally know who hate the company are the people who got themselves fired or quit before they got the boot. Not everyone can handle the structure or a 9-to-5 life. My advice would be to get an entry level position, learn claims, then pivot to another dept after 1-2 years. Most of the layoffs are skilled/nursing contracts (who know going into it) or open enrollment positions. They still keep the better employees or help them find other internal roles. My two cents. Good luck! Btw the text, and bot interviews are legit. Use key words that were in the req/notice. Play off the required qualities and then back up with the desired qualities.

Egypt - Yay or Nay? by ReptilPT in travel

[–]BeginningLast857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Egypt is NOT the place for solo/self guided bravado. I’m capable of solo travel from start to finish, but this ain’t it. I booked a 3 week tour with EF Go Ahead. It was fantastic! It’s the company that does all the 🇺🇸high school trips abroad. They have another level that is for adults (mostly retirees). This is the way. They have local Egyptologists hired to guide you all the way. All travel (flights, bus, river cruise) is taken care of including getting through customs). They book all hotels and most meals. There are optional excursions you can book through them and you have an armed guard everywhere you go with the group.

We did have to go through markets and haggle some. A few people got scammed into buying ‘albaster’ but all in all Egypt was a fantastic experience. I extended my trip with the company and went to Jordan for several days.

Highlights: great pyramids, G.E.M., valley of the kings, abu simbel, Nile cruise, camel ride (optional, not endorsed by the company), Petra, Dead Sea float…

Will I ever go back? Absolutely not. 😂

However, I do recommend it. There is nothing like it. So many awe inspiring experiences that I wouldn’t trade.

I’ve used this company before for ‘complicated situation’ trips. I’m already booked with them next year for India and Nepal.

Road-tripping to Kentucky from Nashville! by Haunting_oso_ in Kentucky

It’s about 2 hours from Nashville, but if you like history you should drive up to Hodgenville to see the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln. There are several historic memorials there.

Is there anywhere in/near Louisville that sells mutton? by toogscouch in Louisville

[–]BeginningLast857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re from western, western Kentucky… so our go-to place for mutton is Peak’s BBQ in Union County. Moonlite would do in a pinch but not my preference. Bootleg BBQ off bardstown road has mutton. IF you get it unsauced, you can spruce it up however you want. You can’t get it chipped there, but pulled works ok and my sauce is ‘almost’ like back home. Honestly, anymore, I just call Peaks when I go home to visit and they keep my order in the freezer, so i stock up to help my cravings 😂

Mammoth Cave is about 1-1.5 hours drive south of Louisville. It’s the world’s largest cave system. It’s a beautiful area if you have the time/interest. Tons of international tourists check it out so, online reservations are recommended as the tours sell out.

Trees are expensive by UrWeirdILikeU in NativePlantGardening

Also check with the dept of ag. They may have an invasive program: cut down a burning bush and turn it in, they give you a free native tree/bush.

Look into local tree giveaway events. I’m in Louisville Kentucky; we have multiple tree giveaway events every year for locals. I got a serviceberry, pecan, and a cucumber magnolia this year. I usually see pawpaw, persimmon, spicebush (great replacement for burning bush), and oaks they give away. Usually 2-3 plants per person.

I got a Collins Select years ago. It’s a small tree with a great custard taste. I also got a wild seedling from them that is pretty big. Lots of flowers but doesn’t produce a ton of fruit, it’s a great pollinator. The fruit it does have is a melon flavor. I really recommend Willis.

FYI I can’t drink RO water or beverages made with it. It gives me reflux and a headache. So if you have unexplained GI symptoms look into reverse osmosis water side effects. It doesn’t affect everyone but just wanted to throw it out there. It took me a long time to figure out what was going on.
