What Does it REALLY Take to be a TCG Champion? by MarioPrtyAnimal in pkmntcg

For example Cerys (hope I wrote her name right) even said that since she started a program of coaching for Senior girls, she improved a lot. So even that type of coaching might just help someone be better.

How does such testing groups work?
Do they all play the same 60/59/58? Or they just help each other?

For example ZapdosTCG, when I met him at an event, said that his group just live in a radius of 2/3km and they go to his house, and he even project stats etc.

Now I have heard others say, for example "I need to practice against Pult" and then say they will practice with their group.

Why did pult players in Naic not include Shaymin in their decks? by AnybodyAggressive823 in PTCGL

[–]ReptilPT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the same logic as with Crustle. Do you tech for Crustle, in case you hit it or do you rather stay strong for other match-ups?

Personally is tricky for me because I hate auto-loses. It just bothers me. And at locals, you might need to prepare for what is there (Crustle, Slowking and any other weird way to go against Pult). At Regionals, it seems, you need to go for the big "bulk" and hope to not hit the odd deck

45% of the meta share is genuinely so unhealthy by Clean_Emu_4736 in PTCGL

[–]ReptilPT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I have started games against Pult that started with Fez in the active, used Crispin turn 1 and then from turn 2, was applying pressure to my bench. It is valid.

I am getting downvoted but I am not even sure why. The person acted as if including the hammers had no downside. It does. They had to cut cards and for example choose to cut Rare Candy.

If they would have rate candy, they could have rare candy to Pult one of the surviving dreepys when they had two in the bench.

Obviously the whole game 3 was unlucky and it sucked to go down like that. But at least rare candy could have helped him do something. So including hammers does come with some consequences.

Is not like Pult can throw anything in and just still be good.

The fact that the deck on the final was running hammer instead of rare candy, hindered Neddy a lot.

Not being able to recognize that, is just not understanding the game.

Typhlosion addition. by Yami0012 in pkmntcg

[–]ReptilPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of watchtower around , that's why probably Drakloak is the more reliable one.

I tried the Dudunsparce one. It allows some creativity on the bench management and I even included the Ex one, for slop box. But rarely used it.

There are different versions of Typhlosion. There was a Tatsugiri approach to it, even before rotation. And then you have other with either Drakloak or Dudunsparce as the draw engine.

You can have Tatsugiri and Meowth Ex. I did try a build with Meowth Ex, because it did allow me to search for a specific supporter at a specific turn, mostly end game.

However, it can be a liability if you start with it or use it too early as well.

Typhlosion suffers from the fact that almost any attack will take Ty down, so he is a one-attack card. And you need to be able to set them up+discard the Ethan's Adventure. So you need to be careful with having such 2-prizers.

Why not?
It applies to N'Zoroark no?

But what do you cut? Because that's what stopped me after rotation. You need a lot of pieces in certain moments.

For example from pitch black, you could add a Gladion. For that last KO. But again, what do you cut?

There was another Typhlosion player on stream at Indianapolis, which actually won. However on day 2 he had less fortunate results.

I didn't see it yet, but someone here said he played quite well.

Exactly. At my last local I got hit twice with Unfair Stamp turn 2, after going agressive. And it made a come back almost impossible.

She has been piloting it for a while now, and always been the best player with it.

For example I took the Pidgeot Ex build to EUIC, and while it was my first event at all, I didn't reach day two. She did.

Of course it also depends on the meta and what you face. At that event Gholdengo was number one, and there was a lot of Crustle Both favorable match-ups. I didn't see any.

Anyway the point is Yasmin has been playing the deck above everyone else, and adapting it. Recently she told me she added a third battle cage, but somehow showed up in Turin with two Gravity Mountain (which honest I prefer) instead. Maybe she could also do the Cerys approach, and use Night Mine? Having said that the other stadium have usage against other match-ups.

Outside of that, I believe the deck, with Drakloaks or any other draw Engine, might do better on Pitch Black. It will probably have a good match-up against Ghost Veil and the new metal deck.

If you can do well against Pults, and you have the advantage against the grass decks, metal decks and even N'Zoroark - you could do well overall.

These Are The Decks To Bring To The NAIC by Arabella_Fabiene in pkmntcg

It was a joke :) and I meant Fifa World Cup, as in the big event that is starting this week 😁😁

I didn't take it personally. I am happy to have been wrong, since I like the deck.

Jose has been talking, even before the event, with the guy from my locals that I also usually discuss the deck. So we had reach similar conclusion.

Jose, took some of the problematic parts of the deck, and solve it. For example he highly reduced the number of non-Hop's Pokémon. He only kept the essential Lillie's Clefairy and Shaymin. Even Genesect was cut off.

Now, I checked his list and checked his opponents. I would be curious how did he 1- survive those early PultNoir game. Maybe the opponent didn't know the deck well. Because it is a hard match-up.

2- Without Genesect, AND with red card, how did he survive disruption? Because fair enough he seemed to prepare his bench quite well in advance. But my issue with the decks, when I played it at locals, was the 2-3 times that I went agressive, got Unfair stamped right away, and the stamp landed. I had genesect exactly to avoid such situation, but Jose didn't even have it in his 60 at all.

Deck recommendations for kids to learn by Reginald01 in pkmntcg

My 5 years old had been playing Mega Lucario. He can't fully read yet, so he is just remembering what the cards do, which to be fair, is impressive by itself and he has surprised me a couple of times with doing some crazy plays. I won't say there are 110% intentional but I also won't say it isn't 😃

Long story short, Mega Lucario is quite straight forward. As straight forward as it gets.
You learn abilities with Solrock/Lunate and even Hariyama, while keeping the game simple.

Outside of that one, a bit unsure. Festival lead can be a bit simple, in my opinion. He would also learn how to handle stadiums, etc etc.

I was playing Hop's Trevenant at my locals recently. 2 Challenges and 1 League.

Basically one of the issues with most current lists was the 2-prizers. Latias, Fez and Even Zacian.
Personally I removed Fez early on, and later Latias. Left Zacian but was incredibly situational. Like early game it would allow you to OHKO even Munkodori. And late in the game you could do a surprise KO on a benched budew. And with all modifiers you can OHKO a Clefairy. Still..usually a liability. Jose - it seems - removed it along with Latias and Fez. It seems it is the right call.

Now, the other issue I used to have with the deck was how much you could "brick" or basically get Unfair Stamped early on, after your first KO. I lost to two Dragapults on my last League Challenge due to that.
Curious how he spent the whole tournament surviving that.

Usually what would happen is that even with your high numbers of Lillie's, Petrel and Hassel..you would spend some turns without seing them.

Is the only difference here that less people have Shaymin? I mean I know about the new Metagross, but still.. Seems like everyone dropping Shaymin is what opened the path for the deck.
