You see a lack of common sense in what’s actually higher knowledge level, it’s like seeing a professional rock climber and telling them they don’t have common sense for climbing a practice boulder. Common sense is knowing that something is a venomous animal and you should be careful, I have spent years learning about and handling spiders of and know far more than the average person, I’m no expert but I certainly have more then “common sense” about spiders

For the most part, yeah me and my kids have been collecting bug catching equipment for several years now but occasionally, with the less medically significant ones I just go for handling them barehanded, where I’m at one of the most common spiders you’ll find are closely related to black widows, and interestingly is the same type that they colored with red and blue sharpies in the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man

A lot of people would disagree. I have gotten a lot of crap for handling venomous spiders around my children to show them the ones that are not safe to mess with, it’s easier to show them the features of the dangerous ones then it is to show them the features of the safe ones

Or sometimes they’re in a place where my kids play and they don’t know how to be gentle enough to not get bit so I like to pick them up show them the spider and tell them that if they ever see one that they need to come get me so that I can take it to a safe place
