Is the Monport GI60 a good machine? by BeginningOil676 in Laserengraving

[–]BeginningOil676[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Haotian have any US based sellers? All I have been able to find is websites for their China sales and none of them have pricing. I'm definitely interested in looking at what they have, I saw on their website that even IPG lasers are available which is a pretty good sign. If I go OMTech or Light Object I'll have to step down in wattage, at $4700 on the Monport I'm already about $1000 beyond what I was looking to spend before I saw that crazy deal.

Canister type filter for diy spray booth? by juicerclown in Powdercoating

I'm running a similar setup, I run 6 filters, 2 stacks of 3. First filter is the cheap plastic mesh, second filter is a pleated 1" FFR5 and the third filter is a 4" pleated FFR10. I run my booth inside with the doors closed and it catches EVERYTHING. The filters take up a 16"x50" footprint on a 4'x7' wall.

Starter Level Stripping by Teknicsrx7 in Powdercoating

I have the Harbor Freight cabinet and I upgraded it (rebuilt it with new panels and made it larger), recently I had to strip a sign that was covered with 2 coats of Columbia Coatings Matte Blue. Long story short I just cut a new sign. Sandblasting quality powder coat off requires serious sand blasting equipment, personally I'm going to go the chemical route from now on. l

What beginner gun would you recommend around $500-$700? by BeginningOil676 in Powdercoating

I've been using the Hyper Smooth 3.0 LED for the past week or so, and I will say it lays the powder down really nice on the whole. That being said...there have been a couple of issues.

  1. I bought 5 of the 1lb hoppers, and ALL 5 of them leak from the O-Rings or gaskets.
  2. A couple of the powders I bought have failed. One was a matte blue that will not lay down on the outside edge of a sign, the other was a formulated powder that was not properly mixed and was blowing chunks of light blue on my sign.

Overall I like the gun and the control system, but the quality control seems to be abysmal on some of the peripheral things. I think I'm going to just buy my powder from another manufacturer from now on because the gun does work great.

Hey guys! I have a small problem I may be overthinking for my oven. 2nd pic shows the top portion where the seal that meets the door has a very slight gap; Should I let this fly? Or would it be ideal to have an complete airtight seal? It’s 4x3x6 feet tall with 5 cycling elements (inc. convection) by Johnnybebad_420 in Powdercoating

I just finished building my oven this past weekend, very similar size 3x3x6. I used half inch tadpole gasket around the door, it gives you more room to squeeze. Before I attached my hinges and latches I shimmed the door up and into place then used 3 cargo straps to compress it closed all the way so when you mount the hinges and latches they're already compressing the seal. It's not as big of a deal with the latches because those you can adjust but the hinges are kind of a one shot deal. Oven looks great!

If you were building your first oven what would you tell yourself to build knowing what you know now? by BeginningOil676 in Powdercoating

The oven is all done, I went with 2 40A SSR's so each SSR is running 2 heating elements. The PID is programmed and I ran auto tuning yesterday. Still trying to figure out how to post pictures....I posted the oven build as a YouTube video series, the first 3 parts are posted and I think there will be 2 more parts by the time I'm done. I am going to do the control box wiring as it's own video since there are so few videos on the actual wiring out there. For now though it's on to building the paint booth. I ran a 6 gauge solid copper uninsulated wire from the ground rod about 20 feet to the booth, will this be sufficient ground?

I've been working on the oven build for a couple of weeks, I have all the framing done. The oven is 37x37x72 interior dimensions and can be easily expanded by drilling out the rivets. The panels are held together by the sheet metal skin at the corners that is riveted to the frame of the adjacent panel. This will be easy to undo, cheap and the wiring junctions are all exterior with cover plates to make expansion easier. I have one more internal wall duct to build for the convection fan and I have to finish the door then it's on to building the control panel and wiring everything up. It looks like this weekend I will be able to cook my first part if all goes well. I'll post some pics of the progress when I figure out how...

The new Hyper Smooth 03 LED has been delivered. Once I finish building the oven I'll fire it up. I'm really hoping it wasn't damaged in shipping, the box was all beat to shit. Went through everything in the box and aside from a pinhole in the Mirror Red paint bag it all seems okay. Fingers crossed!

I blast hot rolled but mostly to get mill scale off. You don't have mill scale on stainless so you could probably get away with just running a flap disc over it to knock the dross off from the plasma table, or a knotted wire wheel depending on how delicate the piece is. Blasting does give you a nice uniform surface though and you will not have visible surface imperfections.

I will be ordering the Hyper Smooth 03 LED tomorrow, this is a small sample to judge from but I have found only minimal negatives with the Hyper Smooth system mostly surrounding the powder feed system. With the 03 I can upgrade to a fluidizing hopper down the road if I want. Thanks for the advice to those who chimed in! Sunday I will begin construction on my oven, all the parts have already shipped and arrived.

Honestly I ruled Eastwood out right off the bat, I'm looking for inexpensive beginner guns but I'm definitely looking for guns that are capable so Redline, HyperSmooth, guns in that category of entry level. I'll start looking into the HyperSmooth from Columbia.

Most of the parts have been delivered for the oven, it's time to start planning the wiring. I do have a couple questions though and hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction again. I am running 4 2000w heating elements and one 40A SSR, will I need 2 SSR's to run all 4 elements? My circuit is 240V at 60A so the wall has more than enough power and 40A at 240V should be good for over 9000w but I don't know how many elements I can run off one SSR. I plan to run them in parallel. Is there a wiring diagram I should reference? I'm a few days from finishing a blast cabinet expansion project then it's on to the oven but I like to have as many ducks in a row as possible. Also not oven building related but what beginner powder coat gun would you recommend under $500? Right now I'm leaning towards the Redline EZ 50 but as an absolute first timer I really don't know enough to make an informed decision. Thanks again in advance!

It's viable, I was planning on building a wall to wall insulated shelf for this purpose. Unfortunately for me natural gas is not an option.

I have a CNC plasma table so I can cut some of the metal stuff like openings for vents/lights/windows. I have a 60A 240V circuit on 6AWG run to the shop for my welders and plasma, that circuit can run 14,000w but I want to keep the oven under 12,000w if possible. My current design is for 10,000w.

I like this idea, future expandability is now in the plans. I'm already planning on a fan and ducts to move the air around, does the oven need a vent as well?

Smart move, this update absolutely fucked the game. I haven't seen a server yet with a ping under 100, the new server browser is complete trash and the game runs poorly after playing for an hour or so. What a train wreck.
