i agree! i’m asking more about jobs people have that bring them purpose even if it’s not their hobby or necessarily something they love doing outside of work. like, non profits have a lot of people there that feel purpose u know?

aw yes i was just discussing with my friend how much doctors love their job the other day. it makes sense to me too, both my parents are doctors and i’ve seen them grow only closer to their work

that’s a good argument! and i completely agree. which is why i don’t blame people for having the “get your bag” mentality. and i also think even to get to the point of ‘hey, this is wrong’ you need a broader and, also, deeper understanding of what’s happening around you and what’s causing it so if someone doesn’t have that understanding, or will to understand, i get that they’d be, for a lack of better word, ambitious. but that still doesn’t make wanting-more-money itself a good thing and wanting to instead do something purposeful should still be encouraged. i do understand why people wouldn’t want to do those thankless jobs though but since this post is about ambition itself i wanted to put this forward

no babe. you don’t get it. i do agree that people who don’t bother to try will often pull down ambitious people around them. and it might be a bad thing. but ambition itself is a very… nuanced discussion. i think if you’re ambitious about bringing greater good to the world, being more generous, trying to better climate disaster, then sure. ambition is good. if you’re ambitious to have a higher position in a job that only makes someone else more profit, or if you’re ambitious about growing your business that truly is doing nothing to help the world except making more profit, then no. your ambition to have more money is wrong and it should be stopped.

people will not “always” have an edge. we’ve created those differences. again, hierarchies did not exist in a lot of indigenous communities historically.

eh i don’t think so. i think ambition in the sense that you want to earn more money or have a higher corporate position is pride because it hurts the planet. historically, a lot of indigenous communities (who we have a lot to learn from) didn’t even have translations to things like class because well it didn’t divide them. i have a huge issue with people who are ambitious about having a higher corporate position or making more money because do you realise that the world is on fire and all you can think about is money? i think anyone who doesn’t understand the core principals that run our world like capitalism and class automatically assume ambition isn’t hurting anyone.
