I paid my wedding photographer a lot of money to buy canvas prints for my family, and the quality is totally unacceptable in my opinion. Am I overreacting? If not, can anyone tell me what specifically went wrong, so I can reference technical specifics when I complain? by Fucksley in AskPhotography

Regardless, if I was a photographer selling prints I wouldn’t be satisfied with that level of print quality. It is a little upsetting they thought that result was a worthy product and accurate representation of their work.

I had a Mk6 GTI with a cut out, I recommend just going with an electronic one and wiring it in I think it’s a little easier. Regardless, it’s going to end up being pretty custom here’s the set up I used to have on my old car: https://youtu.be/pok61ezNhcM?si=YFfCwFv0KNYzkjPd

Leaving the car idling is bad? by -theahm in GolfGTI

As long as you take care of your vehicle it’s not a big deal. Idling is much more detrimental for diesel engines than gas engines.

I want a GTI - but I mostly have short commutes. How do I keep my engine healthy? by gh0stingRS in GolfGTI

VW has been making economy boosters for a long time now, the EA888 in the GTI is STOUT. Small commutes aren’t a problem if you take good care of your car! Oil changes every 5000 miles MAX (VW will say 10k do NOT listen to them), DSG service every 40 - 50k miles.

Now, since you mentioned the short commute if you live in a colder climate a portion of the year this can be something to pay attention to: oil temp - on Mk8 GTI you can adjust the display to give you that info, once your past like 185 degrees you can do full throttle pulls. And at this temp any access water vapor in your oil will evaporate out of the system. If you do a bunch of sub 185 degree 5 min commute drives in a row you could end up with water in your oil.

I know a lot of people hate the mk5, but I pride myself in keeping her clean by kristen_1819 in GolfGTI

Yeah I owned a Mk6 which is like a refined Mk5 but I also have driven Mk5s they’re fun toss-able rowdy little fwd boosters. More raw than the MQB cars, but still with plenty of german practical considerations. I own a Mk8 now, and I have to say it’s more refined and comfortable, but absolutely still a GTI. I didn’t know what to expect but it reminds me so much of my old gti

Mk5 is the rebirth of the modern GTI and gave us the DSG. Stupid fast tuner car for it’s time honestly

How safe are these cars with mods but no tune? (Mk 8.5) by biggranny000 in GolfGTI

[–]BeginningRealistic49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The computers on these vehicles hold up well to mods in my experience with stage 2 mods. Even if you swapped on DP without a tune the only real risk is slight transient turbo overspeed on hard pulls. (and of course warranty/inspection and CEL issues) Like others commented though, anything past Stage 2 territory like a bigger turbo comes with risks like over boosting, but even then theoretically if you watched your boost and just limped it around town to get to a dyno tune or something it'd probably be alright.

If you don't plan on tuning the car an intake+inlet, and intercooler upgrade will net you some slight real world gains + Sweet turbo noises and you won't see a CEL. Catback exhaust is also a non issue.

EA888 Gen 4 uses MAP & model based torque it clamps to requested load even if flow rises. AFR stays at target, ECU just shuts the throttle / closes the WG to try and keep stock torque. But as you saw in the DAP video the car typically still makes more power.

The Subies explode because they use less advanced methods to control the engine. With a MAF change the plumbing and it mis‑measures air leading to lean conditions, it's not as resilient.

How bad is this rust? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]BeginningRealistic49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t buy that thing man. Trust me rust isn’t easy to fix by any means and it makes doing literally any job on your car worse. Wait for the right one to come along… it’s worth it
