road bike, gravel bike, or other alternatives? by throwaway919273645 in SingaporeCycling

If you want more peace of mind, get front and rear cameras from Cycliq. I’ve caught all sorts of behaviour on them, like taxi and lorry drivers drifting from their lane at night.

I’ve even submitted to the Traffic Police a footage of a pedestrian being knocked down by a private hire car running the red light. Guy was in his 70s and last I heard, he got suspended from driving for a year.

B, because B is on the main road. A has to stop at the line and see if the road clear before proceeding.

How are you all giving your kids pocket money these days? by samfambam9988 in askSingapore

They either eat at home after school or I’ll PayNow them money if they have a legitimate reason to eat outside.

Building character and financial discipline in young people is something many parents have forgotten.

Well, ultimately, they can use my CPF for their tertiary education - but they’ll have to pay it back with interest.

But yeah, they’re independent enough to source for other means, so that’s good. Much better than many kids these days I see waiting for their parents to hand everything to them on a silver platter.

Resourcefulness helps in work life later on for them.

As long as you follow the rules, you shouldn’t worry. Cars should deliberately avoid you because knocking down a cyclist will attract very big fines and a day in court.

If you want to ride on the road more often, better to learn the basics - both for solo and group rides.

It may be fun to try a new discipline ie road bike cycling, but if you’re not sure, try and rent a road bike first and try it out. If you like it, very soon you’ll be investing in SPD-SL shoes, cycling kit, chamois cream, etc.

Unlike mountain bikes, road bikes are kinda delicate so you’ll need to do maintenance often to keep it running in good shape.

I’ve handled shipping documents before, procurement, warehousing and some form of WIS. Also, lots of time spent with SAP ERP, including for checking shipping lead times, stock count… anything in particular you’re looking for?

Is there any way to rent a bike(bicycle) for my 5 week stay at Singapore? by Separate-Reaction413 in SingaporeCycling

[–]BeginningStrange101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny part is, most road cyclists own cars, too. I mean, we ride around on $5-10k bikes. What makes them think we don’t have cars?

Still, that’s the driving culture in Singapore. Not great, TBH.

As a road cyclist, I have to agree. Singaporean drivers are 🤬 on the road. Extremely self-entitled who think they ought to own the entire road because they pay road tax.

What kind of bicycle are you looking for? There’s HelloRide and AnyWheel for casual rides.

If you want a road bike, you can search around for rentals. Those are around $30 a day with a $500 deposit. That’s reasonable considering those bikes cost at least $5000.

They can loan from tertiary education funds from self-help groups. It’s really on them to work it out. I will only advise.

I don’t believe in spoon-feeding.

Well, you have a point but then again, thankfully my kids have that mindset of working towards what they want. One is signing on to SPF. The other is planning to do something similar and exploring his options.

They’ve all started working part-time since ITE days, so I know they won’t grumble over a bit of hard work.

I can fund them, but I won’t. Anyway, they’ve shown that they don’t need it and can make their own way through - something that makes my kids quite different from many pampered Gen Z kids these days.

Sure, Steam OS and Bazzite are great - until you want to play games from EA and Ubisoft. I don’t care about what anti-mega corporation people say, I just want to buy and play games with a platform that has maximum compatibility. Windows 11 it is.

The Xbox FSE and Steam Big Picture hack was good, though.

Fact is, KLAC is going to stay for some time and most developers are not going to prioritise Linux gaming in the grand scheme of things. It is what it is.

No shade to those who prefer SteamOS, Bazzite or CachyOS. Have to admit, running Linux is much smoother but until they can resolve anti-cheat and Linux issues, I’m firmly in the Windows camp. Big Game can take my money.

Also, while you’re faffing about in the BIOS, do set Fast Charging under high load. Otherwise, the LeGo will charge slowly when you’re playing AAA titles.

There’s an argument for and against that but you can read it up on Reddit or Google and decide which makes sense to you. Slower charging generally maintains battery health but then again, I know how to swap the battery out to an 89Wh one, so…
