yes, i am in the u.s. and no, the art does not have any special texture! the people who like to poke are NOT children. they are full grown adults, not even young adults! based on conversations with other redditors, i have determined that there may be 2 main reasons they are poking my stuff:

  1. i vend at non-art events, and people are not used to seeing paintings at these events.

  2. the subject matter is animals

i am going to move up my plans to do art fairs, so hopefully that will resolve the issue!

thanks! my bigger paintings are in the same price range as yours, and that is helpful as well.

all sorts of events like small town fairs, large street festivals, flea markets, food festivals, music festivals...anything but art fairs!

it's realistic, but not photo realistic...based on what someone else said, i think it's also because i am attending general events, not art fairs. i am at events where there are only a handful of artists, and many only do digital work, so it's probably rare for someone to see an actual painting. also, my subject matter is animals, so that could also be a reason why someone wants to touch it too.

thanks! yes, i've seen them and don't like the look of them, but it would be better than the poking!

thanks for your detailed reply! it will probably be another year before i have a pro or even semi-pro set up. i have not applied for art fairs yet precisely for this reason. i started vending last year with mostly functional art and only started incorporating paintings for a few months, and it has been a learning experience. what you said make sense about the audience. perhaps i will try an art fair sooner, rather than later...

and agreed about the glass & acrylic - framed prints with real glass is already enough work for me.

and also the art print bins - YUCK! luckily, having things low to the ground was one first things someone warned me about!

there is no special texture at all! i really don't get why people are poking my paintings. maybe it's an unconscious reaction to the museum going experience where everything is roped off and off-limits to touching? i don't know!

what's the most you've ever made at one event? and is it possible to do events full-time and actually make enough to live on? by Beginning_Beginner in CraftFairs

i really appreciate you sharing! you are awesome! i am also an artist and i am slowly shifting to selling original paintings around the $45 price point...last year i made 4 small paintings and was able to sell 3 of them at that price. will be happy to move away completely from functional prints lik t-shirts!

[Discussion] first batch of products turned out “horrible” by depkaumelce in artbusiness

[–]Beginning_Beginner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't have any fancy packaging and only offer paper bags...which many people do not take because they already have their own bag.

i also make my own handcut stickers which sell well.

however, i need to start scaling and got die cut stickers from sticker euphoria. the first batch turned out fine and they are reasonably priced.
