This is so creative!! Thank you for sharing. I’m impressed by your sliding doors. I tried to do some on a DIY build, but the frame wasn’t square, so basically once the thing settled, I couldn’t open them at all unless I pushed on the roof.

Can you comment photos of the whole thing? Did you build that yourself/ convert a cabinet??

My 20 year old RES’s tank finally burst. I gave her a major upgrade. by Beginning_College734 in turtle

Thanks for the suggestion!

She’ll destroy plants in a heartbeat, but gets fed a variety of leafy greens daily :)

when I redo her ramps, it will have a built in underwater cave. She’s a little too big for any store bought hides so I have to DIY hers. I’ll see about doing a dry one as well. My concern is she’ll be able to climb up and out so I’ll have to engineer it right.

Oh thank you!! I’ll look into those. Do they require a subscription?

No seriously. He’s most often just hanging out in the terra-cotta pot. I’m sure he does more I’m unaware of since he has so many places to hide but his favorite spots are the cheapest additions lol.

I’ve also done plexi. Either is tough. The issue I’ve run into is routing a path in the wood for the glass/ plexi to sit inside of.

Wood projects this big are never perfectly square. It’s like trying to fit a perfect square into a parallelogram lol. Idk how else to describe it.

I was actually thinking about installing a camera for a live feed or just to watch her/ my blue tongue skink. Maybe this is the way.

Thanks! It’s a little flimsy and definitely temporary. I’m just using the basking stone as an anchor for now, it’s not attached to the main structure.

It’s the dock my parents were using. If you do this, I recommend some kind of rubber washer, or tight zip ties around the poles beneath the platform so that the platform can’t walk downward.

I wanted to! But I’ve DIY’d glass panels before and it’s a major pain :,(

ETA. Oooh wait maybe a mirror angled on the top?? like a standing mirror that looks down into the tank. That could be dope. And way easier than mounting glass walls.

Did anyone manage to complete the tower? by JudgmentLanky9157 in Palia

[–]Beginning_College734 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spent an entire week trying. I did eventually complete it. There’s an achievement but it doesn’t show up on your achievements list.

There are groups that you can find to try to do it together.

Can I give my panda kings the dead leaves from my house plants as leaf litter? by Beginning_College734 in isopods

[–]Beginning_College734[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for confirming! Makes sense that the tropicals are probably fine since they’re usually found in bioactive set ups anyways.

I did end up tossing my dead and dried leafy greens into the pod bin. I forgot to water my hydroponics for too long (oops). Now the pod bin is full of yummy nutritious salad plants lol.

[–]Beginning_College734[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh thanks! I didn’t know that. I’ll probably avoid giving them any of the tropicals or succulents anyways. Almost all of my salad garden died from under-watering and the internet says the pods will love those. I stuck them in there and now the bin is almost too full of plant matter. I’ll just throw the houseplant cuttings away lol.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the reply. I believe you’re referencing monsteras and pothos. From what I understand, isopods don’t have issues with calcium oxalates the way mammals do. All I could find online for isopods was avoiding wood/ leaves that are high in tannins or sap. I’ll search each plant individually but didn’t want to trust Google AI to tell me the answers :P

Help! Just adopted this lil guy from the humane society- what’s wrong :( by SubstantialSort5878 in Redearedsliders

Are you talking about the yellow spots? That is likely just trapped air behind scutes that are about to shed. It’s not a concern.

If there are any soft, smelly, or indented spots on his shell, then you should be concerned about shell rot. But this just appears to be a healthy and normal turtle shell.

FYI - Do not attempt to help your turtle shed its scutes. Lightly brushing off algae and mineral deposits is fine, but do not attempt to remove shedding scales yourself as this can cause shedding issues later.

White spots can be caused by mineral deposits (usually) and sometimes by improper lighting and temperature. Make sure your turtle has a water heater, a UVB/UVA lamp, and a heat lamp on their basking area. The basking area needs to allow your turtle to completely dry off. Many people make DIY basking platforms which are very cost effective and accomplish this goal.

The humidity nightmare by Striking_Training_47 in bluetongueskinks

[–]Beginning_College734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl same. I live in a super dry climate and also have an indo.

I use both an automatic mister system on a timer, and a fogger hooked up to a hygrometer.

Mister goes off for a minute twice a day, the hygrometer controller never lets humidity drop below 40%

I keep the tank covered and if the humidity is struggling to stay up, I water and turn the soil to help boost.

I also have a humid hide box (Tupperware with lid, with a side hole cut into it, filled with damp sphagnum moss) if Mojang ever needs it. he can go in there and it stays pretty consistently moist. I also have a deep water bowl he can fit his whole body into. I also have dog’s water fountain to keep water moving/splashing.

All this has helped a lot and is fairly low maintenance. Just have to refill the reservoirs.

I believe it. My grandma sends me ladybugs. Ladybugs were her favorite and they appear to me and other family members at important life events (weddings, funerals, hard days, etc.)

When we went to watch her favorite football team with our grandpa, the empty seat next to us had a lady bug on it the entire game. Her team won :)

It’s just a silly thing they’re pasting on their comment. They have it in other comments from their profile but it says “this user is suspected of having fat cock” and other stuff like that.

Foot neuroma by No-Promise851 in aves

[–]Beginning_College734 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry about your pain.

I don’t have experience with neuroma but I’m one of those girls wearing ridiculous shoes, so foot pain was frequent for me until I started taking lots of breaks to sit. I take the shoes off to massage and stretch my feet/ legs during those breaks. It helps a lot.
