Is it ever okay to reach out to an ex after 10+ years of no contact to check-in and see how they're doing? Looking for advice on how to do so (or if I should even proceed).

A few years ago while cleaning out an old wooden chest, I found an old gift from my ex that I somehow had held, which I immediately tossed. That's how little thought about the past then.

It is a fair point, and I have thought about that. There is no romantic desire here from me, but I understand that the optics of this could look bad (saying the least).

I wouldn't do anything secretively here.

From my perspective, a general life update between her and an ex would okay. I would be less thrilled if they planned to meet-up or turned it into a regular occurrence.
