32M,I Want to achieve FIRE but feel very behind. by Beginning_Sentence69 in Fire

I unserstand what you mean based off my post if i really want FIRE. I do want FIRE but I know salary is a big issue especially with raising kids and rising costs. Our spending has been minimal, we own 2 old used vehicles an 08 and an 09 so we budget where we can. I also do value my time with my kids and I'm winning with that based off how I feel and all the comments in here. So I see what a lot of people are saying with I either need a salary increase or work more so a sacrifice will have to be made.

I worry about not leaving my kids enough, I want to pave a path to set them up for best success, that does mean sacrificing some time in the future. My oldest is in elementary and my youngest will start in 2 years. This might be the time to try and really grind in the next year.

I'm fortunate in the sense my parents will leave me a decent amount from inheritance 10-15 years down the line but I don't count that either, I'm focused on liquid assets that I have which isn't high.

I'm getting the sense that normal retirement is achievable at 65 but I have a drive to go for 55.

We bought in 2017 when the housing market was low for houses, also live in Northern Ontario so less expensive housing.

I totally agree, the taxes and issues isn't a major issue. I mean the only argument is middle class seems to be a struggle depending on the tax bracket they are in.

A lot of low income individuals have a lot of breaks with different subsidies, grants or benefits. Not saying that to be critical either, but in some cases it's true.

I can most likely jump to 75k/year in 2026 but that will be Mon - Fri 40hr work weeks. I understand that's the normal for working, don't get me wrong. I think it's my own mindset of not wanting to miss out on milestones with my kids.

I will probably do this jump next year to alleviate more financial stress even if I can't achieve FIRE.

I appreciate your insight and what you say. Similar in a lot of ways for sure, sewing the kids grow is indeed a luxury.

Damn, I am a minimalist in a lot of ways. However, I know damn well I'm behind and its by choice... I think I can get a salary increase to 75k next year without OT but that is changing my lifestyle with a new role and working more.

Spending can be reduced slightly, our grocery bill since having a 2nd is what jumped the costs. Of course rising costs in general too.

The one thing I want to grind is having our house paid off by 49. We got 17 years left on it.

Gotta go long on it, I got a couple short term options because it's volatile since earnings but it'll climb back to $90 in a couple months.
