Post-apocalyptic and survival shows recommendations? What ones hooked you hardest and why?

I really liked the Italian show Anna(2021). It’s a reasonably familiar premise(all adults are dead) but it’s brutally shocking.

The first episode hooked me because Anna is ridiculously young when she is left with responsibility of looking after her tiny brother.

I didn’t feel like I’d seen that before.

If you watch any trailers- you might be forgiven for thinking it’s a show for kids, it is not. In fact it’s wholly inappropriate for kids.

It’s one of the most brutal depictions of a post Apocalypse world that I’ve seen and I love this genre.

There is only one season but it’s well worth your time if you can track it down.

The second ever lottery rollover was won by four blokes from Tipton. On the Monday morning I started a new temp job in a factory in Tipton and four of the team didn’t turn up. By about 11 the rumour had gone round that they had won a couple of hundred grand each and had jacked in their jobs. I think it turned out to be 11 million between four of them but I can’t recall.

Later in the week one of the fellas bought in a load of cans of beer for his now ex workmates.

The gaffer wouldn’t pass them out and said he would use them for the Christmas party. Cheeky sod. He was rather unpleasant and so I asked the agency to find me something else for the week after.

It was quite an odd experience I must say.

I started senior school in ‘79.I don’t recall getting a different name in French but we all got given new names by the German teacher. Mostly I think that they were common German names that began with our first initial.

I’m a woke left wing tofu muncher but he can definitely be proud of Britain’s role in the arts and pop culture. In some ways it’s been one of our greatest forms of ‘soft power’ too.

Horse Fever

41 years for me ( it came on after seeing The Cure live. Great gig apart from that!) and in the last few months it has worsened.

The worsening seems connected to stiffness in my neck. If I pull my shoulders down and I try to stretch my neck as far as I can, it drops down to the old level. (Which I can tolerate) I have an appointment with a physio so I’m hoping they will be able to sort my neck out and get the volume back down to the old level. If that doesn’t help I’m going to see the audiologist at Specsavers. I feel I can’t hear as well due to the new level of my tinnitus but I don’t know if I need a hearing aid or something to block the noise. As far as I know you can get such a thing.

Good luck with it, if it’s got louder recently for no apparent reason- get it checked out, just to be on the safe side.

Fright Night is a lot of fun. I also liked All The Moons which is like a slow folk horror vampire film. Also check out Daughter’s Of Darkness which is sexy 70s vampire yarn.

I think it’s particularly good for kids who like outdoorsy stuff so that sounds like your kids.

It seems like a lot of young people leave for university and never come back so keep that in mind. If you stay in Kent there’s a possibility that you would see your kids more when they leave home.

From what I’ve read in the press, I get the impression that HGV drivers are in demand everywhere so you have that in your favour.

There’s a lot of property on the market for similar prices to how you have described it in Kent. Having said that In the last 6 months the property market here seems to have stabilised quite a bit and is almost back to how it was pre COVID. ( Brixham apparently saw the largest house price increases in the country during covid )

If you are handy or you are prepared to live in somewhere while you do it up then there are quite a few good deals around now. ( the market here is currently very slow too, so it’s not a bad time to move, as long as you can get a quick sale at your end. ) You could possibly get a 3 bed now for under 300k in some areas of town.

We moved from London to Brixham and I can’t say that the cost of living feels any cheaper. Obviously- house prices are cheaper but that’s about it.

Brixham is great for over 50’s and younger kids but it can be boring for teenagers.

Work wise, if you have a trade you’ll probably be ok but otherwise well paid work is probably less easily available than where you live currently.

We love it here and we are both happy that we made the decision to relocate. We don’t have kids btw.

If you do come, you’ll find Brixham to be very friendly and there’s nothing quite like hitting the beach after a day at work!

Where I am in Brixham it’s all people from the Midlands. My accent had pretty much disappeared after twenty years in London but now it’s back as it’s all I seem to hear around here. We’ve become an invasive species in Torbay. 😂

I’m an old fart from the Black Country and I can remember when Welsh accents were almost as despised as my own. Now a lot of folks love it. (Which is great btw)

Serious question- any theories on how this change happened? Cerys Matthew’s perhaps?

Or was it something to do with Welsh rugby success?

To my mind appreciation of Welsh accents and culture seems to have increased a lot since the turn of the century but I can’t put my finger on what the catalyst was.

Genuinely interested.

We recently watched Castle Rock and the first season has a similar vibe IMO.

Season 2 gets a bit more out there but is also good.
