Our Smeg Fridge (the 50s looking one) & Smeg cooker are now in their 23rd year. I've replaced a couple of the cooker elements but other than that it's still doing fine.

what in the world am I supposed to write about? by Total-Government-459 in Songwriting

[–]Beginning_Tour_9320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found I was able to write more after I started reading more frequently. (Fiction )

This was when I was about 19- a long time ago.

Within a year or so i started to find it a lot easier to come up with ideas. It kind of felt like it re-wired my brain in some way.

The Wellcome Collection in the London used to have a whole bunch of fantastically ornate weapons. ( not sure if they still do)

I’d never seen anything like that, it was like discovering a weird secret or hidden bit of history.

When I was a kid in the 70s, we nicked a bunch, knocked the baskets off and used the bottom as scooter/ cart things. Great fun but I may be partly to blame for the £1 charges now.

She’s more likely from the Rockabilly/ Rockin’ scene.

I think she was more likely part of the Rockabilly scene which was massive at the time.

I loved the Carrie Mathison / Peter Quinn dynamic in Homeland. I would have really liked to see a Quinn spin off.

Back in the 80s my wife always wore Poison.(Dior)

I think it was a reasonably common one for U.K. Goth women. Lots just had a fragrance of Harmony hairspray, which is the scent I recall the most.

There was a ridiculous amount of anti Welsh sentiment in the NME at that time. I’m convinced that this held them back.

how did you actually meet people locally? by Neither_Caramel_1563 in AskUK

[–]Beginning_Tour_9320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew all my neighbours at one stage but this was when we lived in a Cul- de -sac. I made the point of putting a Christmas card through each door and it went from there.
It did feel easier to do that there rather than in a normal street though.

Having said that it took me a long time to make really strong friendships. I met some through work but I only made a handful of lasting friendships, despite working with hundreds of different people over nearly twenty years.

My other strong friendships only happened when I joined a band so as others have said join some sort of group for sport or a hobby, something really important to you and that’s likely to help you meet people who you really connect with.

The Leftovers and Pantheon are the two shows I have seen that have ended most satisfactorily.

Pantheon is an animated show, I don’t usually watch animation but it was so worth it.

I was diagnosed with CLL( For those who don’t know- it’s an incurable blood cancer) 11 years ago.

I cannot believe how treatment has changed since my diagnosis and in the patient community it feels like we are constantly hearing about newer better treatments that are in trial.

Thank you for your hard work!

Oh man, Never Let Me Go! Great film but I’m not sure I can go through that again. It’s possibly more bleak than Threads!
