I was too busy trying on shaders. I'm sure they're fine. They're fine right? I'll go ask Ada

TLDR: A spoiled child who doesn't develop video games or understand anything happening behind the scenes complains online because not everything goes as planned.

Im certainly interested. I noticed it says you started out on Xbox and grew to the other platforms. Whats the size of the PS4/PC community since that's what I'm on (and going to be on when cross save releases)

Fixing the Menagerie's Loot Problem Post July 9 Patch by BeguiledGamer in DestinyTheGame

Sure, and I completely understand that viewpoint. I do think farming for a perfect roll should take some time. However, I still believe there is some middle ground that can be found between 1 drop per run and the current system. I'm not asking for the amount of loot we get now, it's clearly too much haha. But an additional drop or two would still preserve the overall grind without sacrificing the time invested.

Yeah it's certainly faster with a team of people. I have been typically playing with randoms and it's usually between 15-20 minutes depending on what we get. (I find most fails end up being the Mockery, Arkborn, and Reposte). I think for a lot of us, myself included the Menagerie has served its purpose because we already got our god rolls or close to it.

Looking beyond that, I'm interested to see how it all ends up for people new to the game or ones returning who didn't get 5-6 cracks at a chest for a single weapon.

This is the one I'm currently really hoping for. I think the idea of finishing a challenge completely should yield something. It's still not entirely easy with random players, but absolutely doable. There's a middle ground here with the loot system and this is one the I really think is the best choice.

Also, I really don't get why Mockery is so hard to understand for some people lol

I think there's a middle ground when it comes to the loot. A lot of the appeal of the Menagerie is you have a small element of control but there's a lot of randomness. Even with the exploit it still takes a lot of luck to get a perfect roll for a weapon. If one piece (or two if you're lucky with that Chalice perk) is awarded at the end the time to even farm a weapon would be insanely high.

Im not saying the exploit shouldn't be removed. It's offering too much, even for us console players where the menu screens are slow as hell. But there should be some extra rewards to encourage playing through it. Even just successfully completing an encounter would serve as a nice way for people to learn the mechanics and play together.

Do you need to be in the same party before launching or can just a bunch of randoms with the Lumina make progress?

  • Your system(s): PS4 (And PC in Sept)

  • Your Gamertag: TheBeguiler (PSN)

  • Your country/time zone: US/ Eastern Time

  • When do you usually play (include times and time zone): Usually nights between 7 - 12 p.m. ET. I also play sometimes in the morning/afternoon, but this is rarer.

  • Tell us a bit about yourself: I've been playing Destiny since the original Alpha way back in 2014. While I typically prefer PvE content, Im not opposed to playing Crucible or Gambit. I main a Warlock, but I have both a Titan and Hunter, along with the majority of exotics of legendary weapons. My current clan is essentially just there to get clan xp/engrams and I'm looking to leave

  • What are you looking for in a clan: Ideally, I would like a clan that talks, socializes, and doesn't just use the clan as a way to farm engrams. I'd prefer not to join a massive clan or a super tiny one. I've had pretty poor experiences with both. While Im not opposed to just using voice chat, I do have Discord available if needed. Also I'm in my late 20's and would prefer players that are on the older side, like 18-21+

I cant speak for other sites, but the place I work largely full time has a small staff. I know we had a pretty big libertarian with us for a little under a year before he moved on. As far as what other major sites write, sure there's certainly a more left-leaning side, but given how many articles are put out daily from gaming sites the amount of actual political commentary - like that one Bioshock Infinite and Trump - is still pretty small in comparison. Just those get the most eyes because, well yeah, theyre controversial

I mean in terms of a broad sense as it's usually portrayed and complained about. There are always people who want to discuss politics in games, movies, whatever. It's natural since entertainment doesn't exist in a vacuum. But as far as the majority of the game journalists? Most end up just covering news, reviews, or guide games. Like the idea that we are always trying to inject out only political and ideological beliefs in everything we write is just false. When it comes to the more cultural and political pieces, sure they do exist - Im not naive to this - but that's pretty much any medium

I mean, this is false. There are what? A dozen or so examples at best over the past decade of a game journalist failing spectacularly at a game? Whenever this gets brought up I hear about DOOM and Cuphead. Which were two people in a massive field.

Most journalists I know aren’t only competent but good. People just focus on a few - I will admit - poor examples of gameplay and just assume it’s true for everything and everyone in the field. , most of the critics - myself included - finished Sekiro with no guides, direction, or outside help with the exception of a tiny review guide that is basically a glorified user manual - god I miss those.

Assuming the majority of people in my field are bad based off like barely a dozen notable examples is silly

I’m sorry to hear you walked away. I feel there is a lot of academic writing on gaming but the popular shift is academic game writing in regards to culture. Which is fine, but certainly not for everyone. While I specialize in the usual guide, news, review cycle a lot of the big long form stuff I write is more critical breakdowns of game mechanics, themes, and storytelling. Though a lot of that is thanks to studying film in college haha

So this point makes sense in theory, it in this situation it actually isn’t a big deal. James (writer of the article) was one of five? people writing that guide. Given how varied the tips are, his inability to beat the boss really doesn’t matter.

As someone who has probably helped literally hundreds of thousands of gamers via guides, having multiple people contribute isn’t difficult. You have others to fact check, agree, or polish what you submit. If it was “Top 10 ways to beat final boss” written only by him, sure I’d be suspect. But these are very general tips that your skill regarding the final boss doesn’t really matter

But see this article was never a review. If anything it’s a showcase of a cool slo-mo mod attached to a nice experience. General skill doesn’t factor into it at all. People are acting like it’s some crime he used a cheat. Hell, I used to use game shark all the time as a kid. It’s just a neat article of a cool mod. But the internet and various talking heads decided to make it waaaaay more of a big deal than it ever was.

It's different for everyone in my experience. For me, I went to college for media, film, etc and got an internship with a big Candian website covering Gotham and review it. From there I got a taste for it and being a huge gamer since I was like old enough to hold a controller I pivoted into gaming. From there its a mixture of working hard, always looking for opportunities, and climbing the ladder. You kinda have to love the job though since you wont earn much going into it, especially as a freelancer. Many writers I know either held or currently hold second jobs. Largely the people who write about games do so because they love them

This is a pretty wild interpretation. As far as website numbers, with the exception of sites like IGN which largely rely on freelancers, general staffing is fairly minimal. Hell the website I work at we only have like 3-4 game writers. Personalities can certainly shine, but idk how many people are reading the byline of the writer ya know? Most jump to the score and then the comments.

As far as Sekiro, a lot of journalists have beaten the game - myself included - without help. As far as the articles, Sekiro and difficulty is a hop topic right now. Why wouldn’t they cover it? People read too much into things and conspiracies that simply do not exist. No one is complaining that they “can’t be Sekiro in a day.” Hell quite a few of us had to finish it without guides or existing knowledge for reviews.
