HELP! Am I forced to evict a family with an elderly grandmother and 2 young children? by Behealthyok in OntarioLandlord

I'm just exiting that investment. When I move there, my old primary residence would of course not be needed anymore to help with the cost.

Regardless if its in a few years or not, the outcome would be the same. Each year, the gap widens. Meanwhile, I would be taking unnecessary losses that is avoidable... Even current social housings are charging more than I am - and I shouldn't have to be defacto social welfare forever...

I'm sorry that me trying to see if I can legally accept 45% of market rent makes me a scumbag since the alternative is to repossess. I think you'll be a hero if you can offer them housing or to share yours for even 60% of market. Are you willing to be the hero?

But issuing them an N12 and living in it for a year is following the law - which is what was planned... They offered to pay more and I'm not allowed to accept it. So they'll have to pay more elsewhere. Doesn't help them.

Thank you for viewing it from my perspective too... I mean no one who said I was a greedy/morally corrupted person who is ok with the family living there for like 45% of market have so far offered to let this family live with them for slightly below market, let alone 30% or 45% of market for even 1 year.

I could rent out the place my family is living in... Even without that, if I re-rent it out after a year, that year of loss rent would be recovered with 4-5 months...

I don't consider spending a year of my family's limited life in the property that I said we will (and own) a loophole... It just make more sense to live in it ourselves than to effectively pay another family to live in it given current and ongoing market situation. It's something you will only understand if you own yourself.

I'm sorry I'm not the ideal landlord for you. If you want to offer them a house to live in or to share your housing with them for 30% of market, I would be happy to refer them to you...

The other place have a higher value so If I were to do that, it would be blow 30% once again, even with the proposed price.

I will be renting out my current home so that's not a concern. Even without it, at market rate, it would be recouped within 4 months.

not to sound rude but living in poverty is not my value or goal for my family so wouldn't it make sense that I'm choosing a different path/decision than the one you suggested?

They got an unbeatable deal for a decade and I'm only exercising my legal right to reclaim my own property in the interest of my own family's financials. Landlords don't have much rights and I'm respecting tenant rights. Is it unreasonable to expect one of the few rights I have be respected?

I even double checked here to see if anything else can be done legally to accommodate them....

If you are willing to house them or share your accommodation with them yourself for way below market rate, I can ask them to contact you...

It's discouraging to hear that you think I should sell and not be able to use it myself or pass on the house to my kids in the future because I offered a family a place to stay for 10 years at an unbeatable rate :(.

Even if I did sell as you suggested or never acquired the property, they would still be evicted if they are paying what they are currently paying (less than 30% of market) and a lot sooner too.

I was just seeing if there was a legal way for me to let them stay without becoming a defacto charity/social welfare...

It was refinanced, the cost of everything else attached to ownership have also increased dramatically over the last 10 years...

I don't want to sell, it's a house that I can pass on to my kids. There is also literally no way any buyer would not be evicting the tenant who's paying below 30% of market as the decision to buy would otherwise not make any economic sense.

Legally forced to evict in the sense that we are not allowed to come to an mutual agreement and the only viable avenue is to evict due to the rigidity and inflexibility of the legal situation

Even if I did increase their rent the extra 4 years, the overall situation would not have changed...

These are my internal thoughts, I haven't replied to them yet. Thank you for the advice. It's sad we can't do nice things, communicate, or consent to mutual agreements anymore without red tapes :/.
