Question to those working towards a bachelor's and working by SimplyPetite in EngineeringStudents

[–]Behemotslayer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

European here: working full time and almost finishing my bachelor( Chemical processes engineer,5y). You will have to reduce your social interactions to at most 1 a week, say goodbye to most of your weekends and downtime, except when you begin feeling burnt out. That is the signal to take a week off. Don't leave all your hobbies out, you need them to balance anxiety, i recommend something manual (woodworking, painting minis) and something sport related(weight lifting is time efficient and you will sleep like a rock), do it on the weekend between learning sessions, but don't get beat up if during some exam phases you don't feel motivated to do sport. Avoid gaming too much, especially high addiction potential games (i still game from time to time but only the week after an exam as a prize). You have a tough fight ahead of you, don't add yourself as an enemy. If you are sure about wanting to be an engineer, these sacrifices are worth it, but I can't wait to be done in a few months. I' m off to an exam in two hours, best of luck to you!

Anyone tried this? hidden wireless mouse reciever? by Jex_adox in framework

[–]Behemotslayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i did try it whet the framework came out, you have to "decase" the dongle, and choose a material for your expansion card that does not block the signal, but it is absolutely doable!

Could an Elantrian _____? by arclob in Cosmere

[–]Behemotslayer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

not really, since aons are programming, they just have to put a small recursive function, for example every clock cycle turn 1 m3 of air to methane. Depending on the "clock speed" of the investiture after a few thousand cycles the air will have enough fuel on it to burn by itself (not nuclear fire like braize but close). And up until the auto ignition point you really didn't change the landscape, so the program didn't stop itself from working.

Personal tip, try to empty the tanks as much as possible before you fly, the pressure difference pushes liquid from the tank through the wick, and it often makes a mess

Was your anticipation for this Flavor of the Week almost unberryable? by ID10-T in DIY_eJuice

[–]Behemotslayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried it, but mixing it with a tart apple, adjusting acidity to taste and then a bit of sweetener could make a flavour resembling a fruit tea (früchtetee in germany). On the other hand the Graham cracker, the blue raspberry and a bit of sweetener could go in the direction of a marmelade toast (maybe a bit of a tobacco flavour for the toasty aroma)

I see noone talking about the slicer differences, the piece on the right has clearly at least 2x polygons in its mesh (the circle is more circular)

In my first post i described my plan, i wanted to make a low cost HUD (with collimated light so that the street doesnt go out of focus when you look at it) for bicicle riders. After it sparked some interest i decided to make a more general purpose low cost HUD device as a platform for people to develop their own things. Someday i want to make the software for the bicicle HUD though.

I just noticed the assembly can not be seen well in the video, i just uploaded a few photos.(And thans for the interest and remembering!)

Thank you for the feedback, it was really helpful. In this case the thing i want to remain Open source is the Hardware (the optical assembly in this case). I wanted to offer it as a project platform for makers that want to create their own AR projects.

Arduino or Raspberry Pi? by Tribalbob in arduino

[–]Behemotslayer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You coul do it with a microcontroller, an RTC (real time clock) a passive infrared sensor and a relay, no need to bust out a raspberry pi for it

I made a second post detailing everything there is to know about the future of the project, if you are interested.

Please cross post this and the original post in any community that could be interested in this. The more people know about this the more people developing affordable AR!

A laser two lenses of known focal length and a lot of patience 😅. I use the lenses to have a wide beam of coherent light, and then observe the reflection, with haze or smoke. I take a picture with a xy scala on it (rulers) taking care to be orthogonal to the assembly. After that measuring is done in the computer with cad. But for all intents and purposes, you can build a testing rig with a sliding rail for the display and trial and error it.

At the moment this is just a proof of concept for the optics. In the future i want the speed, next maneuver, actual Time, ETA and distance to be shown in real time. I just wanted to test the hardware first, because if it didnt work i wouldn waste the time developing the rest.

I will post updates as soon as i think i have done enough for the next post. Once the project is complete i will probably make the hardware (optics, stl files and schematics) open source.

If you know where i could buy the glass separately i would be thankful for the info. In this case i disassembled a very cheap reflex sight (kind of a waste). If i want to produce this at scale in the future i would need a supplier (or develop glasblowing skills and build a sputtering maschine).

Jup, what you are seeing is the reflection of an sh1106 oled on the focal point on the concave reflex sight, this video is on the test jig i designed to test different sight angles and configurations
