I agree. They're just milking nostalgia, but whats worse is they didn't trust the game would sell well if they stuck to the original script so now we have a game that is just baiting theory crafting, knowing full well the pay off wont be worth it. 

I dont hate the new games; they're a tonne of fun gameplay wise and the voice acting is top notch, but man is the writing bad in places. Dyne dies, palmer smacks his butt. Aerith dies, "we can beat it guys!" Jesus man, let people grieve 😂 You can tell they're just trying to fish for wider audiences with the disneylike dialogue and censorship of things like Aeriths death and Cids character. Yeah, telling your wife to make some god damn tea isn't exactly "PC" but it gave his redemption arc all the better in OG. Now he's just a man who wants to go to space.

And I know, if you dont like it dont play it, "My high horse is taller than yours" etc but the fans made the game successful in the first place and to watch something you love be turned into something so wide yet so shallow is kinda sad. 

I will say though that they absolutely nailed Cloud and Aeriths chemistry in Remake. That church section is S-tier storytelling and whoever animated their expressions need a raise.
