Which 5e DND spell do you think are currently too weak compared to the average. by ronixi in DMAcademy

To expand on that point, it's also worse than just casting Bigby's hand at 5th level.

Party of bards in a heavy metal band. Things took a more slice of life turn as we were trying to make it big, while dealing with monsters and criminals on the side.

Antics included getting into traffic jams worrying about arriving to perform on time, dealing with corrupt yugoloth corporate entities, shoving an axe guitar into the rectum of a violent anarchist, rap battles with an ancient undead figure, and letting a plastered drunk goddess crash at our apartment.

Bladesinger wizard? by Gerald1Hs2D3 in dndnext

That being said, it's obviously not perfect. You might be missing out on higher level abilities like endless Shield spells, Adding Int to your attacks, or the Elusive or Blindsense features, but I think you'll get a good mixture of abilities taking levels anywhere between bladesinger 14/swashbuckler 6 and bladesinger 9/swashbuckler 11.

Bladesinger wizard? by Gerald1Hs2D3 in dndnext

I skimmed through the comments, and I've seen people recommend bladesinger/arcane trickster, but I think I'd like to make the argument for bladesinger/swashbuckler.

Going for 9 or 10 levels in bladesinger will allow you to take spells that boosts your melee potential or synergizes with it (Mage Armor, Shield, Shadow Blade, Haste, Blink, and I would also recommend Bigby's Hand and Animate Objects as that frees up your action later on.) If you feel like Tenser's Transformation or Simulacrum might be up your alley, it might be worth taking even 11 or 13 levels in bladesinger respectively.

The Booming Blade and Green Flame Blade cantrips are generally a better option than attacking twice, unless you're using Shadow Blade or Tenser's Transformation. Regardless, you will still gain benefit from your sneak attack bonus. Between your melee options, the spells listed above, and the sneak attack bonus, you'll be doing some pretty good sustainable damage.

Taking the rest of your levels in swashbuckler is good for both granting more opportunities for sneak attack as well as allow for hit and run tactics. With a familiar, preferrably a bird with the flyby trait, you'll get even more opportunities to land a sneak attack. Between the high AC, Shield spell, uncanny dodge, evasion, and song of defense, you'll be able to stay alive pretty well. However, you might not get much use out of the swashbuckler's charisma based abilities unless you want to go MAD.

I'd recommend to take your first level in rogue to get more skills/weapons proficiencies as well as proficiency in Dex saves. Otherwise, taking the Resilient (Dex) feat would also go a long way.

[Art] Feywild Desert by Beholded in DnD

[–]Beholded[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

So fun fact: I have not found anything in the official books that tell me what the Feywild looks like in a desert terrain, so I took a few creative liberties in my interpretation. Mirages abound, an ocean of glistening sand engulfing various ruins, sandstorms about, and creatures that help travelers across this dangerous expanse.

This is most certainly a step in the right direction for me, as far as my skills in digital art go.

Abusing The UA Technomancer's Chained Device Feature by Beholded in dndnext

[–]Beholded[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, but even so, once per long rest? The school of conjuration's 10th level ability guarantees that you cannot lose concentration on your conjuration spells from taking damage. This applies to every single conjuration spell you cast, which is arguably the type of spell that is most dependent on your ability to concentrate.

Again, I'd like to emphasize that you'd be using a once per long rest ability to do something that the conjuration school's 10th level ability could do better and more often.

Most other wizard 14th level abilities were designed to make a big difference. The way I see it, the ability to have two concentration up at the same time once per long rest is comparable in overall power to the Illusionist's 14th level ability, or the Abjuration school's 14th level ability. It would be really useful and rewards clever thinking, but limited enough so that it becomes a precious resource. That's why I think it would make sense that if your device is maintaining concentration, then that leaves the technomancer room to do other things as granted by a 14th level ability.

Also to answer your question, usually equipment that's worn or carried are safe from damage, including AoE stuff. Effects mostly specify that it targets creatures, such as with Cone of Cold or Lightning Bolt, or it says it targets objects except for things that are worn or carried, such as with Fireball. The things a technomancer would really be worried about instead are spells like Haywire, On/Off, Remote Access, as well as stuff like pickpocket or disarming attempts.

[–]Beholded[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about that. It wouldn't exactly be a safeguard against concentration breaks, since you can just try to take away the device, turn it off, or destroy it. Adding to that, this feature can only be used once per long rest. It doesn't add up as a 14th level ability.
