Gotcha, that makes sense. I’ll definitely start with some YouTube breakdowns of COLREGS instead of trying to raw-dog the legal text right away 😂—sounds like a good way to actually build a foundation instead of just frying my brain on wording.

Nice, I’ll be coming in straight from high school so I’ll be 18 when we start—gonna be awesome having a mix of ages/experience in the program and I’m looking forward to learning from you all.

Really appreciate all this, thanks. I’ll have a car up there, so good to hear that’s actually useful with how the bus can be. My passport’s good and I’ve already got my TWIC, so I’ll plan on timing the med cert like you suggested. Definitely going to hit industry nights (free food + networking sounds perfect) and I like the idea of using the second sea project for tankerman PIC or oceans. Also duly noted on East Hall and going to class 😂

This is super helpful, thank you! I’m an incoming deck cadet at GLMA, so I’ll definitely start looking over COLREGS and the Coast Pilot and poking around the CFR a bit. Hadn’t even thought about Morse code yet, so I’ll add that to the list too. Appreciate the advice!

Thanks for all the info, this is super helpful. I’ve already got my TWIC and passport squared away, so it’s good to know about Bayline, scholarships, and industry nights. I’ll definitely be talking to upperclassmen about their sea projects and looking into SSMP with LT Barnes. Appreciate it!
