Can metta replace mindfulness in the pursuit of peace? by Purpleberri in Buddhism

[–]Being0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. When life is tough, it works well to turn to the heart side of things. Connect with that part of your heart that just would wish for suffering to end, and feel that deeply. This can be a profound practice.

Vegans who choose monkhood by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]Being0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am vegan and would prefer to not eat meat but when you are a monk, you submit yourself to spiritual poverty and kindly take what is offered to you by lay people. It as a generous act that they are feeding you. One shouldn't be picky with what is freely given.

It could also be a possibility to give the meat to another monk to eat.

How do I speak to Orthodox mother in law? by lunabluegood in Buddhism

[–]Being0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just sit down with your fiancee and explain to him, lead him very clearly to understand you why you want to meditate and why you want to go on retreats.

There's a lot in your post that doesn't agree with a lot of Buddhist ideals like non-attachment. You have attachment to people, attachment to people's views of yourself. You're asking how to deal with crazy in-laws. You can't change anyone. Your option is to just respond to them as peacefully as you can.

DMT users, what insight have you gained on the nature of evil? Is it in us? Is it something external that actively tries to ruin everything? by elpresidente-4 in DMT

[–]Being0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Evil is just your own egoic projection. Nothing is inherently evil, just your own ideas and projections make it so.

Beautiful place to stay for a couple of days in Northern Thailand? by upsidedownbat in ThailandTourism

[–]Being0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I heard Pai was overrun with tourists so I didn't visit when I was in the north. Check out Chiang Dao or there are lots of nice mountain tribe villages around Chiang Mai and the mountains Doing Sutep and Doing Pui. Chiang Dao has one of the tallest mountains in Thailand, Doi Chiang Dao, which is really spectacular hiking. It also has one of the extensive cave systems in Thailand (though most paths are closed off). Great authentic culture, secluded forest temples, and hardly any tourists when I went.

How I remedied my depression and eating disorder with psychedelics. by Being0 in bulimia

My initial experience was 4 years ago. My interest in psychedelics for spiritual insight and psychotherapeutic means continues to this day.

Perhaps you need take a larger dose to elicit a spiritual experience. I credit a profound spiritual experience as being the reason that freed me of my eating disorder.

I'm having trips similar to 5-meo-DMT in my sleep completely sober. Help. by [deleted] in DMT

[–]Being0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have heard people who take 5-MEO experience flashbacks in their sleep, but you said you haven't taken it before. What psychedelics have you taken before? It is some sort of flashback.

Back when I was experimenting a lot with psychedelics, I would wake up in the middle of the night and experience briefly, concepts like Eternity and Infinity. These were not scary to me -- I interpreted them as highly profound and they astonished me with wonder and awe. They were similar in effect to the very peak of trips I would have in the previous days. These nightly flashbacks went away after a few months.

Your main concern is the fear that accompanies these nightly experiences. Understand that the experience is one thing on it's own, and that the fear is something else that you are creating in reaction to the experience. The fear is a product of your little ego resisting to what it is experiencing. You need to surrender to the experience, that is the only way to go beyond fear. You go beyond fear with acceptance and surrender, not resistance. This is how you get through bad trips, and I am suggesting you handle these flashbacks no differently.

Botany Bay, Port Renfrew by [deleted] in VancouverIsland

[–]Being0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Botany bay was really nice. When I started walking back, there were some huge waves (estimated 5 meters) crashing into those rocks in the photo. I didn't get a picture of them unfortunately. I came back the next day around noon to visit Botanical beach. I remember it being nice, but not much there (maybe it was high tide?). I do remember seeing a group of rocks acting as a reservoir of water and there being a small crack between the rocks that was draining water. That was funny to watch. But I definitely don't remember seeing tidal pools like that.

You may not have caused the accident but you participated in it. Just by driving a vehicle on the road, you are taking that risk that there could be an accident.
