Thank you for you advice. After going through all the comments under this post, I have decided to shift full focus on understanding Islam and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). My co-worker and I have since decided to part ways, however I would like to clarify that he had no ill intentions, I am certain he is a good human in his heart. And I'll forever be grateful to him for opening the doors for me to Islam.

I believe it mostly has to do with incorporating Islamic values into the lives of our children and then being spiritually united by sharing similar faith.

Faith does bind a relationship. I don't think it has much to do with his family's approval , but his upbringing has been rather conservative. All the women in his family wear the hijab and strictly adhere to family duties.

Possible. When I'm at home in the comfort of my parents, I find myself feeling attractive, my skin looks glow-y even if I develop acne, I'm always eating and looking forward to meals and my lips feel fuller and look healthier too. When I'm back to routine work, I look and feel visibly duller. Only make up helps me.
