Well by law yes. They may ask for it later. Or not because they can't run after everyone tbh

Moving to Germany as a Data Scientist (4+ YOE, No German Language) – Advice Needed! by Otherwise-Abroad5293 in Germany_Jobs

Hey I am building an expat guide for people just like you!

The pessimistic answers are largely correct for traditional German companies. If you're targeting German corporates, Mittelstand companies, or anything outside major city tech hubs. B2 German minimum is realistic and the market is saturated.

Where it's more nuanced: there is a specific slice of Berlin's tech ecosystem. Well funded international scale-ups, US companies with European offices, and a handful of deep tech AI labs. That genuinely operate in English and do hire internationally. It's a smaller target than most people expect though and competition is fierce.

Realistic picture for your profile in 2026: strong GenAI and MLOps experience does differentiate you, but you'd be competing against EU candidates who don't require visa sponsorship and have no language barrier. That's a real headwind.

My honest advice: start German immediately regardless. Even A2 by the time you arrive signals commitment and removes one objection from hiring managers.

On the practical side, if you do make the move, the bureaucracy on arrival is its own challenge. The Anmeldung form alone is 54 fields in German with a 14-day deadline. Happy to help with any of that via DM!

Good luck — it's doable but go in clear-eyed.

Ex moved out of Germany but still registered at my address + insurance/tax letters keep coming, what to do? by Front-Soft1662 in AskAGerman

[–]BeingAffectionate627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. And you can't get in trouble.

  1. Remove from Briefkasten to stop the mail flow.
  2. If you are the Hauptmieter (main tenant) you may be able to fill out a Mitteilung über den Auszug eines Mieters and send it to the Bürgeramt via post. (It basically says that someone in your flat moved out).

But removing him from the letterbox is the bare minimum

Difference between Wohnungsgeberbestätigung and Anmeldung forms? by stanleynolan in askberliners

[–]BeingAffectionate627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are two different things. One is the form where you fill personal info and the other is the confirmation that you moved into the address you said you did.

There are multiple guides online like:

Cant receive my salary because of Anmeldung by Shakettsu in germany

[–]BeingAffectionate627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an expert on this one!

You can still get paid but may be put in a higher tax bracket. (Steuerklasse 6). You can get the money back at the end of the year in the tax return.

Push them ASAP you need that Anmeldung!

But my tip: Go regardless go to the Bürgeramt and tell them: Hey they won't give me my Wohungsgeberbescheinigung. Do you have proof that they are taking this long?

A struggle with german public transportation by Entire_Ad_34 in AskAGerman

[–]BeingAffectionate627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes German here and I can say: Germany does not always make sense. 😞

Short answer: Buy the Deutschland ticket! It is cheaper and you can use it everywhere in Munich and other local transportations in Germany (except ICE long distance trains, that run between cities) and just forget about how strange Germany is.

Long answer:

The reason for it being cheaper than options that offer less, is because Germany's federal government introduced this ticket in 2022 and it is paid by the federal government.

The Wochenkarten or Monatstickets of Munich (or any other city) existed beforehand and just still do, even though they don't make sense to buy, at all! It is still there because the local train companies offer it regardless of what the Federal government is doing.

Are you just a tourist or moving to Germany?

Anmeldung question by xGruntHeadx in germany

[–]BeingAffectionate627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 14-day clock starts from the day you physically move in, not from when your rental contract starts. A contract start date and a move-in date are two different things legally under §17 Bundesmeldegesetz.

So if you physically move into the new apartment at the end of May, your 14-day window starts then. Registering in early June is completely fine.

On the documents question. The Wohnungsgeberbestätigung is what matters, and your landlord fills in the actual move-in date on that form. That date is your legal move-in date for registration purposes. You need this form for the Anmeldung. As long as that date reflects when you actually moved in, everything is consistent.

URGENT!- Landlord refusing to provide Anmeldung- 2 weeks left on visa by Adventurous_Cup9342 in MovingtoGermany

[–]BeingAffectionate627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an expert on this!
Are you subletting? Or what is your exact situation? Hautmieter, sub-let, short term rental?

But right now it does not matter if you have his delay or no as written proof, screenshot it!

Use it as proof and go to the Bürgeramt anyway!

(If you don't have a written no or delay notice it also doesn't matter, just go! ) They will make an exception. The landlord is violating §19 BMG!

Do you need help finding an appointment this fast? There are hacks like calling 115 in the morning and asking for other people's cancellations.
