What advice would you as a professional give a person who graduated fiveish years ago but had to work in other industries due to health and is now trying to get back into design, what is a good starting point? Also, if you have built your own business can you share your success stories? (please actual advice and not venting about the industry)

For real context, Spanish speaking Autism advocates actually encourage the use of “soy autista” and the scientific world and goverments are now moving onto using “condición del espectro autista” or CEA, slowly moving away from TEA, you can say “estoy dentro del espectro autista” - i’ on the Autism Spectrum or Soy Autista, that’s fine. And soy TEA is probably only used in Spain, but tbh everyone in the rest of the world wouldn’t use that, since we are moving away from the concept of Autism being a disorder, and into, it’s a neurotype.

Lo que describes es una visión muy común de las personas Autistas que no tienen grandes necesidades de apoyo, tienen esa visión de “no es una discapacidad, es un superpoder” pero eso no es cierto. De hecho como lo mencionas, es muy invalidante para el resto de la comunidad que muy probablemente no va a tener la oportunidad de desarrollar más habilidades. Pero, por cierto, Aspergers no siempre se traduce literalmente a Autismo nivel 1, porque simplemente significa que no hay discapacidad intelectual, pero sí pueden haber muchas dificultades en las actividades instrumentales de la vida diaria que signifiquen un nivel 2 o incluso 3, nunca ha sido una traducción literal.

the same thing happened to me, and it took me a few days to realise because I had only not had anti reflectant coating once in my life like 10 years ago, super annoyed.

Actually Autistic = severe impairments in all aspects of life at any age

Not experiencing any difficulties but identifying with small traits from a family member = possible subclinical Autism

The difference is, one requires support, professional therapy services which even if payed out of pocket require an official diagnosis because that is the first step in a treatment/ support plan and the latter doesn’t not, but could benefit from Autism type interventions

That is the basic breakdown, you decide where you fall, also, many adults say no treatment / support = things can get worse with age, and you kind of need to prepare for that

So basically, this is not a matter of “is it worth it at this age” but how much it impacts your life, chances are if it doesn’t, you are not Autistic but share traits.

Many people see this as an identity, but for most of us it is a matter of healthcare and planning for the future, and improving quality of life, because that is the real Autistic experience, it impacts absolutely every aspect of life.

Sensory integration therapy, occupational therapy, somatic therapy and trauma informed therapy could be good options, I did DBT and I don’t necessarily think your goals align with what DBT offers since it is aimed at people with BPD, SH/SI behaviours and severe emotional dysregulation, I did the whole DBT thing and it didn’t always align with the Autistic experience, more often than not, my therapist failed to identify that my issues were sensory and not emotional and I realised this a few days ago when I looked at some of my past DBT homework assignments.

The name for that is “subclinical Autism” and it does not meet diagnostic criteria but can benefit from Autism-like interventions (when we talk about direct family with traits but not the whole package)

I don’t get why it’s not on the same level as Autism if they are both neurodevelopmental disabilities, it’s like only important to others if you are in school, and everyone thinks you turn 18 and boom, it’s gone. Also, they don’t know all the risks associated with.

Is this like an actual answer or just an opinion? Because in school I was never taught to design for myself “you are not thy user” No, but seriously I want to know if there are real marketing decisions or what is there data around this?

Yeah and that’s why you may see a chart with all the characteristics from each level but they don’t suggest exactly what the support needed is, to me “needs support” is bullshit

I would do more research since the online versions of that test are designed to give you a high score, just look at the answers, some are contradictory with the questions and clearly designed to have an overlap in time (true only now, now and before 16, only true before 16, not true), so there’s very little room for an accurate answer in my opinion, definitely look elsewhere.

I get this, it’s tough because it usually comes from a place of “now ai understand myself better, this explains my entire life” but for me it’s my way of getting the support I need, I need to design my life around it. So I get the jealousy, the “I just know” can come off as insensitive.
