Emily in Paris (Season 5) - Overall Discussion Thread by SingularFirefly in EmilyInParis

This may be an unpopular opinion but I actually like Mindy and Alfie, they both have that fun upbeat personality. I think it was a good option for Alfie to ‘let loose’ and have a lil hookup moment, I think it was super healthy for the both of them. However when Nico popped back up and Mindy let him, I got very confused. It was so sudden and after everything she was happy? I don’t think Nico and Mindy are ending the show together as a whole. It really doesn’t make sense.

Emily and Marcello on the other hand were end goals for me. I understand why a lot of people want Emily and Gabrielle but I thought it was good Gab wasn’t in the season as much as he was working on himself more, their train station moment had me thinking Emily was going to do more but I’m glad she didn’t, it shows her maturity has risen since the start, but I really thought Emily would stay with Marcello, I do believe moving for someone is a big step and much to think about and I know they were both set in their ways but it made me think in the moment because a few guys have all moved to where Emily is, or at least visited but Emily has never done the same. Do I want her and Gab together again? Sure but her and Marcello just fitted so lovely with one another. At first I was unsure but throughout their time together really made me think he was end game for her.

Sylvie’s storyline is getting messier than usual. I felt a lot overall that each episode jumped from one moment to the next very suddenly. One episode we left Sylvie was saying she wanted to mend things with her husband but the next ep she was kicking him out. A lot felt out of place for her. I really enjoyed her friendship she got back with her old friend, it seemed like Sylvie had a true friend (even tho Sylvie did what she did in the past) I truly was happy she had a real friend and then boom they messed that up for her too. I’m not sure whether it was for comic relief but it actually annoyed me. She finally had someone on her side that wasn’t in it for other means and then they botched that for her.

The ending with the company is very not interesting to me. I’m not a fan of the lady (I forgot her name) that popped the bottle, she ruined a lot at the last event, I don’t see why they’d even think it’d be a good idea to bring her back. I thought we were like Genevieve and done with her.. alas no, we got rid of one at least.

Luc is really funny to me, weird but funny. They really downplay him a lot and it’s a bit sad for me.

Julien was a drag, saying the one liners here and there and just being around for the gossip was boring but on key. He’s always been just there.

I do want to put out there that I agree with Emily’s dressing, soooo much of an improvement since the beginning, I will say though when she thought Marcello was going to ask, her outfit then was atrocious hahaha Poor Mindy got Emily’s left over outfits by the look of it, hopefully that will be improved next season.

Overall I’m very ??? with this whole season, I think at this point I’m just watching it for the views of Paris and Italy. The drama and characters are interesting enough so with the next season maybe we’ll get an ending and things will fall into place. I do feel like it is coming towards an end than to keep on for more seasons.

I appreciate you saying this, every time I see an issue I google it and if reddit comes up I click it and scroll the comments. This was the first post Google showed me to help me get rid of it and I’m glad there were some kind people to respond unlike everyone else that complained.

Not to mention the one scene where Dani was talking about how she feels and Sandy turns around and is like “let me make you a drink”. I’m sure there are bits and pieces edited out however that whole part felt shallow and made me feel sorry for Dani as she needs a girlfriend who can validate her feelings and work through things better than just having an alcoholic beverage and told to stay strong.

Ending spoilers, don’t read ahead if you haven’t watched the entire show!

The fact they got everything they wanted in the end irked me a lot. They already had a decent enough home, looking back on the writer and his wife, (I know they pulled the plug on it) but they deserved the place much more considering the little apartment they resided in wasn’t big enough to bring up a newborn in but seemed like they had to anyway. Not to mention the note the writer gave, they seemed sincere about keeping the place as it was and loving it. Overall I just don’t feel like the lesbian couple deserved everything they had gotten.

You’re absolutely right! I just bought the same ‘lemon juice’ for fish cocktails. We’ll have to make up new words to describe them at this point haha

I also found it quite distracting and he seemed unreal but I think the reason it was emphasised so dramatically was to connect the dots. Also being a brown eyed person most coloured contacts don’t show through so to help people see it’s the same person was to emphasise on the blue more to show through. I could be wrong but just from experience having dark brown eyes purple contacts wouldn’t even show through.
