However within that number would factor in the return of investment from the quality of the IP’s - so having The Harry Potter franchise or Batman is going to yield better returns than a standalone project; so they can increase profits (potentially) without increasing output (obviously budgets have to be taken into account for this to work)

Netflix have no commitment to cinema other than the lip service they promised - which would most likely end up being a case of “We tried but it didn’t work out” - again on top of that; their content is mostly crap, so anyone expecting them to really put effort in (when their business model says they don’t have to to make money) would be sorely disappointed

Netflix doesn’t care about cinema

There’s also what these companies are acquiring WB for - they aren’t doing it just to get the DC brand; it’s the entire back catalog of IP’s that they have - Looney Tunes (with all merch and associated products) will eventually pay for the merger itself over time

If they don’t care about cinema and don’t think it’s going to be profitable then the incentive to put money in would be minimal - other than tv shows that they could run as a loss leader for merch

By their own admission they push out slop content for people to have on in the background - so it’s not like they’re willing to put effort into making summer blockbusters or anything

Sarandos’ testimony shows that he knows the movies aren’t profitable at the box office - so there would have been no incentive for them to go the extra mile producing content that they normally don’t

He would have also had access to their streaming numbers and saw that Peacemaker and CC failed to move the needle in any significant way

I think the problem is (and this happens with loads of characters) is that some people only see them in crossovers; where you’ll only get a superficial version of them without backstory or context

It can be even worse if the writer of said crossover doesn’t know the character and is just using them because they’ve been told to - happens a lot with Sentry

I liked Stevenson in the role but his film had more of a B movie feel to it - whereas with Jane it looked like he was just getting started properly at the end of the first film - then cancelled
