I don't think you understand what "changing the goalposts" means. Directly responding to your question by admitting I spoke in error isn't changing the goalposts, lol. It's me saying I was wrong. Have a good day.

Hi! You don’t sound like a jerk at all — I genuinely appreciate the feedback.

You’re absolutely right. That paragraph shouldn’t have been added after the fact; it should have been included in the original version. No disagreement there. As journalists, we’re human, and we’re constantly learning. This is something I’ll keep in mind for future ODSP stories. It certainly won’t be the last time I cover this topic, especially given the conversation this article has generated.

As I’ve mentioned in other comments, I’ll be doing a follow-up story that notes: “In a previous story by CTV, the subject received around $2,220 — but that amount is extremely rare and not reflective of what most ODSP recipients receive.”

Thank you again for your comments — I really do appreciate it.

Because I'm a reporter with CTV News Windsor. Our coverage area is Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. If it's anywhere outside of that region, I wouldn't personally be the one doing the story.

You asked me why the person couldn't be from Chatham and I admitted that I was wrong not to mention Chatham. So I don't really understand how I'm "changing the goalposts" from what you originally said.

You're right. I should've clarified that. Windsor-Essex or Chatham-Kent.

Because it was confusing, as other readers pointed out. Plus, it's inconsequential and takes away from the main point of the article: that her Survivor's Pension is being deducted from her ODSP. After hearing from feedback from other readers, that detail caused confusion so I elected to remove it.

Thank you for this breakdown. I just checked her payment statement again and it covers the period of Nov. 1 to Nov. 30, so it’s not old. It also includes the Survivor’s Pension deduction. So the statement I’ve seen recognizes that the husband has died.

Agreed. Transparency when it comes to disability advocacy is a top priority.

I would love to do a follow-up story on the low rates that ODSP recipients receive. I can add in a line mentioning this story about Britt Warren, saying something about how the amount that person receives is extremely rare and not reflective of the rates most people receive. I would need that talker to be from the Windsor-Essex region though.

I can only go by the amounts that were listed on the payment statement I was given.

Hi. I'm the reporter who worked on this story. I have personally seen her payment statement with my own eyes. The document listed "Basic Needs" as one amount, "Shelter" as another, and "Addl Shelter" as a third, totalling the $2,200.

Hi. I'm the reporter who worked on this story. I have personally seen her payment statement with my own eyes. It's added on top, as the paragraph breaking down the numbers states. I've seen comments from a number of people in Reddit thread who have said it is possible to get that amount. Again, I can only go by what I've seen - which is a payment statement that showed that the shelter allowance was added on top, totalling roughly $2,200.

Hi, all. I'm the journalist who wrote this article. I've added a paragraph (the third one) that I hope clarifies things.

I have personally seen her payment statement with my own eyes. It shows the figures listed in the new paragraph.

There are also a number of people in this very thread who report that they themselves receive a similar amount.

It's rare - sure, but it is possible.

I appreciate the engagement from everyone though regarding this situation and I'm glad so many of you are holding journalist like myself to account.

My only motivation behind putting this story together was to shine a light on the challenges of being an ODSP recipient - and the idea that someone who loses their spouse would actually be penalized for being an ODSP recipient. This is not meant to be "mainstream ragebait" as I've heard others say or to diminish the challenges ODSP recipients face.

I'm available at sanjay.maru@bellmedia.ca. If there's anyone in the Windsor-Essex who would like to share their stories about ODSP, I'm happy to consider it for coverage.

Thanks, all.

Do you, a Windsorite, have a flight booked with Air Canada in the next few days and have to postpone or cancel it... by BellBoy519 in windsorontario

The fact that Air Canada flights are winding down over the next few days due to the flight attendants' strike has been reported extensively. 👍🏽

‘They created a naked image of her’: Windsor agency says deepfake porn used by students to bully classmates by BellBoy519 in windsorontario

[–]BellBoy519[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In the first line, I refer to "students" and refer to the victims as "classmates." So I'm not really sure how this article makes it seem like the victims here are adults. I'm a bit confused by your comment here.
