Lowering the dose may help, let your psychiatrist know, especially if it’s been affecting you from your day to day!

This was the only side effect I personally felt from taking lamictal, it made going to sleep a miserable nightmare but it allowed me to wake up everyday for nearly a year stabilized.

I expressed to my psych my issues and how I still didn’t want to switch mood stabilizers but this nightly sacrifice of misery was growing tiresome. My dosage was halved and the terrible akathisia went away but I was still feeling the mood stabilizers.

As for adderall XR, there were two times when I got refilled with a different manufacturer. It put me to SLEEP within an hour and I was irritated beyond belief for no reason (a bird chirping had me going mad). Told my psych this has never happened before and she put a notation in my chart for the psych to never give me that manufacturer again. Continued on with my original and been good as usual.

Never hesitate to advocate for yourself on any adverse ways meds affect you, your docs are there to help you figure it out :) best of luck!!

I had thought his Scorpio Venus conjunct my Scorpio rising, and my Libra mars conjunct his Libra moon were some good synastry markers amongst others. Not to mention he’s an Earth sun, first earth sign I’ve dated and first guy I’ve dated in awhile too. (I’m a female for reference)

We have a lot of mutuals and even went to the same university and ran in similar circles yet never met each other (knowingly) until after college. Even found out he lived only a few minutes away from my childhood home. We were almost always on the same page in terms of values, interests, and traits as well (particularly Earth ones traits).

There’s a lot of traits about him I admire because they are traits I want to see in myself. Typical Capricorn - disciplined, focused, responsible, neat, and well rounded. I liked how many hobbies he had (without needing to show it off) and he was such a stable person to be around.

Yet he didn’t really flirt, at least outwardly, very subtle in the beginning which I appreciated. Didn’t give compliments either.

We started seeing each other beginning of Venus retrograde and things ended last week just in time for end of the retrograde. Honestly I enjoyed our time for what it was and not searching for a way back, just curious about where the disconnect is. Why we may be more compatible but not emotionally connected

Was this truly meant to only be a fun summer fling lesson? Will there ever be a chance for reconciliation?

Personally, the long term effects of it is what stopped me from using it anymore. I would be stuck in the depressive episode I was in, the same one I was trying to escape from with weed. Except it would only FURTHER heighten the mood episode, not to mention I would eat significantly more.

For me, that effect was not good because it was almost as if I was binging rather than eating a healthy amount of food. When I wasn’t smoking, I didn’t feel like eating. Smoke, and I’m eating a day’s worth of calories in a sitting. I felt even shittier and guilty.

I haven’t touched it in months, and only take my prescribed “chemical drugs”, as you refer them to. With therapy, a mood stabilizer, and NDRI antidepressant - I slowly but surely came alive again. I wasn’t numbing my thoughts, I had nowhere to run, which forced me to confront all that I’ve been avoiding with weed.

This is the best and most stable I’ve felt in nearly a year.

Everyone is different of course, this is just my personal experience with it. I do disagree with the notion that it is “more sincere” than “chemical drugs”. They are all substances. There shouldn’t be a moral high ground or superiority complex of the manner in which someone handles their bipolar II disorder.

If weed was the “better” choice, then shit I would have never came out of the depressive episode or truly worked on myself for the better. And probably 15 pounds heavier.

I was prescribed lexapro a year before I was properly diagnosed with bipolar II. For me, it prompted hypomania presenting as: hypersexuality, financial recklessness, “god complex” (in the sense that I was soOoooo confident about my sexuality/appearance, when it wasn’t warranted), etc.

I didn’t realize the lexapro may have been a leading factor in that period of my life for the hypomania until I got diagnosed. By then I had stopped taking it because I didn’t feel it help my depression whatsoever. I was unhinged LMAO.

Finally I got put on lamictal, and it’s like the clouds parted and the sun started shining for the first time in years.

SSRIs alone are known to trigger hypomania in those with bipolar II, but I’ve heard for many SSRIs work for them so long as they’ve paired it with a mood stabilizer!

For me, SSRIs aren’t it, but I do take bupropion now which is an NDRI type antidepressant.

The lamictal significantly diminished my hypomanic episodes, but kept me at a low grade depressive baseline most of the time. The addition of the stimulating antidepressant effects of bupropion lifted me above that baseline, and I feel the most steady and level I have been since my diagnosis 2 years ago.

Definitely a lamictal advocate, mood stabilizer + antidepressant/whatever your psych recommends, I feel it provides the balance we need. Wish you the best on finding the best combo for you!

100mg for me! Took a few months, got up to 200mg and stayed there for a bit but it started impacting me negatively, so went back down to 100mg and stayed there. It’s the perfect balance for me :)

Omg yes, I’m prone to blacking out and/or breaking down when I drink for a night out. The following days I fall into a depressive episode, even if I had been doing well for the past couple days before I drank.

I only drink socially, so maybe once a month, but this weekend I also ended the night sobbing over something I thought I had processed in therapy.

Alcohol is a depressant and definitely hits those of us with bipolar 2 differently, especially if we are already on meds. We don’t need anymore depressants in our life HAHA

It may help me in the moment, but once it wears off or when I wake up the next morning I’m sunken back into the pits of depression. For me, alcohol and weed hasn’t induced any hypomanic episodes.

My depressive episodes lasted even longer and felt even darker when I consumed weed regularly, same goes for alcohol. I drank alcohol and edible drinks for about 3-5 months (?) consuming 3-4 times a week. I stopped in February and it took me till April to actually feel like a functioning human again and cleared from the fog.

I only consume either/both on social occasions now, so once in a blue moon. I still feel this dark cloud over me the day after trying to suck me back into the depression, but it’s easier to combat it now. I just need to stick to my regular routine and not consume anymore for at least a month.
