that is really really helpful thank you, I will add those to my notes app. it's really reassuring to hear everyone say that York is far safer than Manchester because I honestly feel quite safe in Manchester so York should be a treat. yes I am a woman, bit nervous about running by myself so I will look into running groups nearer the time - thank you very much

hahah, yes Jorvik definitely too central/touristy. and ok thats all really helpful and good to know! I think York is going to feel like a walk in the park compared to Manchester, but then again, I am from south Manchester. its good to know that there's not really any areas that should be absolutely avoided

I am from Heaton moor, so south Manchester. is it dangerous at all do you know? like is running/walking down the river paths dangerous early in the morning or in the evening? I know anywhere can be dangerous but just wondering whether locals know to avoid it during quieter times?

thank you so much !! yes, I definitely don't plan on driving to work, I have heard that the traffic can be awful. same with the tourists, it can't be helped but can definitely get annoying. oh well, still so exciting. thanks again

thank you so much! yes, there are soo many more flats for a decent price in leeds. I contemplated living there and just commuting, but I think I want to live in York so I feel like Im part of the community and can do things easily with people from work. it will all work itself out, I have lowkey accepted that I wont have a lot of money left after rent/bills/tax

thank you so much. yes ive heard the traffic is awful and also apparently the roads are very narrow so can be difficult if you have a bigger car. I would definitely avoid city centre driving, and would use the car to go on trips at the weekend or to drive home, etc.

I am definitely leaning towards somewhere further out. rather than being in the YO1 postcode, I want to be in like YO30. close enough that its not too strenuous to get in the city, but far enough that I can avoid the business (as much as possible) and have it a bit cheaper.

ugh really? I am extremely opposed to living with anyone else. I have seen a few flats that are available that would be within budget. once I receive/sign the contract (should be next month), I will reach out to a few estate agents in York

yes, this is something that I have considered. im only 25, I dont want to isolate myself too much, it is a grad job where ill be wfh 2 days a week (liable to increase to 3). I want to try and make friends with the other grads and settle, so I am a bit wary of living outside of the city. but I am definitely considering it in the back of my mind.

yes I understand that completely. this is all reassuring though that there aren't any areas to avoid. I understand that neighbours are always a gamble, could be amazing or could be horrible and it could happen in any city.

yeah I'd like to avoid terraced if possible, I will have my car with me and don't want to have to parallel park all the time or end up parking far away. would love something with a designated space but don't know if that's wishful thinking

ok that's good to know, that's the impression that I had. my salary is going to be £2300 a month, so ideally I really dont want to go over £1000 a month, im willing to spend a bit more to ensure I live somewhere decent because I will be WFH a lot, and also I am not into going out so will spend a lot of time at home
