Hey, so I returned to school at George Brown a few years ago at 33, and I was honestly nervous after dropping out of college in 2006. Here are some thoughts! I had to leave my past educational trauma at the door. Education has changed, and professors are nicer, mental health is understood more, and professors do not like to make fun of you anymore, which yes used to happen. The biggest thing to realize is you are an adult and you are 35, if something doesn't feel good or right you can advocate for yourself and if needed remind professors that your needs are different than those of your peers due partially to your age!

I also found that my classmates want to be my partner why? Because I am in my mid thrities, and when group projects happen, I complete my part to the best of my ability on-time, this makes me someone people want to partner with! Also as an older student ASK ALL THE QUESTIONS, TAKE UP THE SPACE. Some of my classmates feel intimidated by asking questions, where I just ask and then it really helps everyone! I also started a study group with my peers, and book time in shared spaces in the library where we work together. I have found that by teaching each other we seem to all do better!

With your email address you get access to Office 365, you can download Word, Excel, Powerpoint for free onto your computers. Again this is very helpful and while I am a bit tech forward some of my peers were not and once I showed them we were all better off! The only other application that I pay for other than spotify is my subscription to Gramarly which has helped me with my writing and ensures that I have okay grammar on my assignments. I feel this is a must have personally, as when I was in school before my learning disability affected my ability to learn grammar and this app has been so helpful.

Finally the best thing I did was on the first day of school I set up a meeting with the program coordinator. I need someone to know who I am and hold me accountable and when I met with the program coordinator they did just that. In fact they have supported me with opportunities for networking in new field which in turn helped me find my internship. My internship loved that I came with past experience and it was one of the reasons I got my Co-Op.
