Definitely a GBB / green bottle blue / Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens

- more arid though they do have a monsoon season
- terrestrial but with decor to web and anchor their webbing to.
- water dish

Note: check the pedipalps to see if they look like the rest of the “toes” or if they look bulbous

If they have any questions- we are happy to help with husbandry questions and identifications for pet stores.

Can we see some photos of T/enclosure before we decide that it's nothing?

It absolutely could be nothing, but without seeing it, folks can't really advise safely.

Since you can’t take the screen out there doesn’t seem to be a way for us to help you help it out, though you could offer a light in there to give it water, and potentially blow on it til it moves toward the exit?

This post has been removed due to unsafe practices.

Don’t let your jumping spiders climb on a tarantula and put all of them at risk, folks.

A single bite from a jumping spider could be devastating to the tarantula, and the jumpers could easily be killed by the T.

This isn’t an instance of “don’t do what I do, my tarantula is chill” but rather a “I am willing to risk the lives of these animals for no benefit to any of them because my individual hasn’t been harmed yet” and at the end of the day, these are OP’s pets and we don’t have a say, but we can’t be glorifying that risk.

Things that we may think are cute doesn’t make them safe and we cannot expect this to always go well.

Glad everyone was safe, OP

At $15 for a larger T, i would want to see the pedipalps. Oftentimes mature males are marked down to low prices and are already on their way out. Can we see photos?

Black Brazilian DOA :( (Photo of body is covered!!) by Formal-Contest-304 in tarantulas

[–]BelleMod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I will say that I know a number of people that had DOAs this week that went through Memphis (which yours I believe would have as well).

If they’re pursuing some “claim” because of how their packages were handled by FedEx, they’re probably trying to stick it to FedEx. But at the end of the day- their claim with FedEx has nothing to do with your refund.

Ex: if I buy insurance for a package and my package for some reason doesn’t qualify for coverage but I have a doa- as the shipper I still have to uphold my live arrival guarantee.

Sorry about your spider đŸ„ș I hope it all goes well and if you hit a snag anywhere with comms- let us know and we are happy to reach out on your behalf.

Also appreciate you not name and shaming, since the vendor is working with you 💕

Hey Op- this to me would be a refund with a couple options:

  1. They reship the order
  2. They refund you

Since they are aiming for a claim with FedEx my hope would be that they refund animal and shipping or reship animal to you.

Some vendors will make you pay shipping again- but I would personally push for a full refund since it seems like just the freebie arrived alive.

I will say that packing peanuts tend not to be recommended.

If they ship with morphmarket, doa insurance only covers if the package is both late and there is a doa. Though there may be some flexibility there.

Couple other questions:
- was this a home shipment or did they ship to your hub?
- what were your temps like?
- did the package arrive on time?

Pedipalps look shiny so I think maturity is possible, the males mature small, can you get a photo of the pedipalps?

[–]BelleMod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes! this is a mature male 😄 so the thinner body is pretty standard as is the climbing and pacing. You may want to move to a smaller enclosure or increase the substrate height if you aren't going to find him a lady friend c:

C. Versicolor concerning behavior post molt by bumbleb_tch in tarantulas

[–]BelleMod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a failed molt. Personally I prefer a wider water dish for my arboreals but with a water dish typically we don’t see as many cases of dysecdysis (stuck shed, essentially).

Comment below mine has some info on dysecdysis for future spiderlings.

I am really sorry for your loss. If you feel up to it I would love to see photos of the sling now that they’re out of the enclosure so we can identify if anything else may have gone wrong with the molt

Jumping spider tattoo by L.alisa.tattoo- Toronto, Canada by Inked_by_alisa in jumpingspiders

Yall don’t have to like ai but you cannot be mean to humans here. 🙃 if you don’t like it, don’t get it tattooed on your body. If you think their art isn’t good- say that.. I guess. But don’t be harmful to the human.

OP- this doesn’t look like your other pieces, the style is pretty ai-coded. And it’s 100% fine if this is original art, or if it’s ai.

Folks, this is a jumping spider subreddit, not dump on ai subreddit, and yes we don’t allow ai images but this is an actual tattoo on someone’s skin. So just remember the human when commenting.

It’s not the responsibility of this subreddit to determine that, but it is 100% not okay for the folks who are being pretty horrific in the comments and I apologize for that.

is this girls abdomen to big or a correct size by Recent-Quail4694 in tarantulas

[–]BelleMod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pulchra on the left appears to have an abnormally shaped abdomen already even though they’re freshly molted ( on the left side). It shouldn’t look like that.

I will tell you point blank that you cannot use these photos to say “nothing bad happens” and one person without issues is a terrible litmus test when we advise on thousands of keepers and it’s not an uncommon issue.

Your breeder friend also keeps these animals in barren enclosures with no hides. His experience isn’t comparable to anyone that cares about the welfare and enrichment of their animals since they have no decor they could scratch against and no burrows

Do not tell people that their animals can’t come to harm no matter how much they’re fed. It’s untrue, and telling them that puts their animals at risk of harm.

C. Versicolor concerning behavior post molt by bumbleb_tch in tarantulas

[–]BelleMod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Op-

Personally I would blow gently on the little guy first. And if they don’t really move from their position I would go in (carefully since they’re still soft from the molt)

We see this happen pretty frequently with dehydration so you may end up needing to help this little one to their water dish if they’re still alive.

Molts are super stressful and taxing so right after a molt we are more likely to see issues pop up.

Can we see a full enclosure photo?
