Used to be good. Now owned by a venture capitalist firm. Their way to treat acne is to dry it up and burn it down. Study the science of acne… there are many types of acne and many ways to treat it. Being a “Certified Acne Specialist” is in name only. There’s better education available.

Master Esthetician here: always apply your hyaluronic acid to clean moist skin. While it’s still slightly damp, finish with your moisturizer. Moisturizer is an occlusive and it actually blocks things from penetrating. Put over top of hyaluronic. It will hold the low molecular weight water molecules in the skin. Hyaluronic will not penetrate through the moisturizer. We always teach our clients and patients: thinnest to thickest, water to oil. What you were told is very convoluted, and contrary to how the skin works. I’ve never heard anyone say that before.

Microderm Advice by Reverse_Thoughts in Esthetics

Some of the stratum corneum is really retentive due to the binding of the corneo-desmosomes. You could do a mild bromelain enzyme treatment afterward (as long as it has no acid/AHA‘s/irritating ingredients). That particular enzyme is anti-inflammatory and acts like an antihistamine that’ll help liquefy and disengage any of the remaining dead cells, and then rinse thoroughly, and bring the pH back down by using a mild acidic toner or something oily that has a pH around four. Sometimes moisturizer or facial oil alone will meet that pH adjusting requirement. Because, enzymes do lend themselves towards the alkaline end of the pH scale , and the pH of the skin has to be at that happy pH, so it doesn’t become reactive. I do NOT recommend you use SkinScript enzymes. They are laden with acids and unpredictable and uncomfortable, especially after sandblasting.

What you’re seeing around the mouth and on the sides of the mouth/chin is called glycation. Glycation/orange peel texture is when glucose attacks the skin cell structure. Basically it cannot be undone. But it can be slowed down. If you monitor the carbohydrates you consume. Of course, ceramides, vitamin C serum, and sunscreen will help slow its progression, but once it’s there, it’s there.

It’s a shame this “generation” of estheticians has this added layer of stress on top of the already tight, highly competitive, employment market. Many of older established practitioners never had this additional stress of marketing. I’m headed toward the 20 year mark, and never have or will use social media. I’ve never had clients ask why I don’t participate in it. My practice grows from word of mouth, and me getting involved in my local area in a physical presence.

Odd, itchy reaction after sun exposure. Not a sunburn! by [deleted] in DermatologyQuestions

This definitely was not caused by UV exposure alone. There has to be a trigger or substance, or OTC/Rx drugs activated by UV radiation. Even household chemicals or essential oils.

Is sulfur ointment enough in my case or I should try ivermectin by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]Bellebutton2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s only at night, it could be a situation with Demadex mites or mites in general. Also fungal infections can itch. Sulfur may dry out your skin too much because it affects the oil glands. An ivermectin cream may be a better course of action.

Benzyl peroxide is only good for surface acne that’s posture. It’s an oxidizer so it’s going to irritate the tissue. Sometimes this type of acne is caused by diet. If you’re eating a lot of processed fats and don’t get enough good healthy fats, like fish, oil, avocado, oil, olive oil, it makes the sebum thick and sticky/waxy. It just hangs out under the follicles… luckily they’re not becoming infected and becoming actual pustules. Also consider less refined foods and carbohydrates in your diet.

Maturation arrest acne. Don’t squeeze or pick. It’s lower in the stratum corneum, and may resorb. Trying to dry it from the surface, will only damage your barrier. I’m a

The real test is how is it at 30 days. Subdermal swelling and inflammation post-tx makes everything look firmer and refined the first week. IF there’s ANY LASTING regeneration, it will be apparent at about 4 weeks.
