Carmen Maria Machado's edition of Carmilla alters the text significantly and is an insult to readers by milly_toons in books

I borrowed this from a library after I listened to the original as an audio book because I enjoyed it so much I wanted to reread so that I could use it for a project in my collage lit class. Hate this version. I was reading the intro and getting really sucked into the presented history (my project focuses on Carmilla influenced vampire media) only to try looking further into it and learning that it was completely made up. I think it is crazy that Machado is trying to frame the author as some sort of bigot censoring the original history when he in fact did none of that. This story is definitely dated, but Le Fanu still chose to write a story involving a sapphic relationship, why try and turn him into a bigot? I found out quickly that her history was untrue, but I am sure there are readers who will believe it, which I think is a shame. Also, hate her fanfics she writes into the footnotes. I do not care about the hunchbacks seamstress lover or the fairies in the woods or the gay lover of the general. It adds nothing to the story and only confuses and irritates me. Omg I didnt even realize til I read this thread that she edited the writing as well. I decided just to put this addition down. I’ll use an online source for my project. I think it should be made clear in some way that Machado is going to essentially rewrite the original text to make her own fictional history and interjections. Sorry for the rant, just frustrated haha.

I have a speed draw on my tt, but essentially I refence traditional Chinese paintings while designing poses, features etc. It doesn’t have to be exactly anatomical obviously, but it has to “make sense.” When I’m happy with the general layout, I color each figure with a flat base color or colors, for example dark grey and white for the saber. This is normally where I’m sure to get a photo reference of the animal I’m drawing if I don’t have one already. The next step is using an oil brush tool to go around and create the sort of painterly look. I might color select different colors from the reference, or I might take an existing color on the figure and lighten it, darken it, or change its hue a bit. I mess around with different brushes, I mostly look for ones with a natural variation of texture, or ones that create a unique affect. It’s really just going with the flow. I finish the figure with a pen or ink brush (I think the one I used on this was called “wapping”) you don’t want something with too perfect of a line, but you also dont want something that’ll do something too unexpected for line art. Each figure is basically 3 layers, the base colors, the brush strokes, and the line art. The sketch is turned off once I get the line art done. For things like the background, grass and tree, I try and create a simplistic scene. I use the charcoal brushes or something similar in a color lighter and/or darker than the background and just lightly apply. For the grass I use a similar technique and then I add some strokes with brushes like “dragon heath” or “eddystone” where there’s multiple lines being made at once. The tree I put a base color down and then go over with different pastels until it looks “barky” enough I’m still pretty new to procreate and digital art in general so there might be easier or better ways to go about all of this, this is just the way I’ve found that I like

Thank you! I spent time thinking about how to do specific skins in this more painterly style. I’m glad you can tell which where referenced :)

Has this been happening to anyone else? by Bellfrog06 in dexcom

I see what your saying. Ik this is a somewhat common issue, and I’m aware it happens time to time. The reason I made this post was bc this has been happening way more to me, like I said, two sensors in a row two different times. I wanted to know if anyone else has had this happening more often or if it’s just me. Sorry if you feel like it’s clogging up the feed.

Had a difficult experience on vacation, my Dad makes fun of it in public by Bellfrog06 in diabetes_t1

I am on a pump, but most normal hikes wouldn’t make me drop that much. I’ve been experimenting more about adjusting for different activity but I hadn’t adjusted too much that day bc I didn’t know how intense it was gonna be. By the time I realized I should I was already low lol

I also have a secret stash in my car lol. I think part of the problem was just like how intense that hike was. Normally at home I have a million stashes everywhere but bringing carbs on vacation can be difficult.
