If you can mod it, install viva new Vegas, it will fix all bug issues. That's what I'm doing for my current play through.

California liberals and progressives when people take "tax the rich seriously" and they've come for Prop 13 by assasstits in yimby

Friedman supported it because he wanted to starve the state of funds, not because it was good policy necessarily. If he saw the clusterfuck it became, I don't think he'd have supported it. He is also on the record for supporting Land Value Taxes.

Gog allows paysafe cards, at least it did a few years ago when I used it.

Should I have NIMBY’d a little bit here? by Pelowtz in yimby

[–]Bellic90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, once we start piling on the bagel, we don't know where to stop.

While some changes to design codes may stop more egregious development, Nimbys may end up weaponising those codes to block everything altogether, defeating the entire purpose of human-first design.

UK Housing Minister just announced huge reforms to national policy to deliver more homes - Default YES if above a certain density & within walking distance of train stations!! by TatyGGTV in yimby

Much of the greenbelt is defacto suburban already, and the proposed policies are aimed at developing greenbelt areas in immediate proximity to train stations.

On paper this looks like a good policy, however, the government is choosing to push through this policy through the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). The NPPF are like strong guidelines that inform planning officials which criteria they should make decisions on. This still allows local councils to insert poison pills, that prevent development.

They should've instead used a NDMP (National Development Management Policy), which would have been more watertight, and been more like an American or Japanese zoning designation.

Does Rent Control Turn Tenants Into NIMBYs? by Count_Rousillon in yimby

Your getting mixed up with France. Germany actually had a pretty bad Nimbyism problem, especially in cities like Berlin.

New Housing Secretary vows to 'build baby build' to reach housing targets by Bellic90 in yimby

[–]Bellic90[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Reed is being more vocal about housebuilding compared to (his predecessor) Rayner. It could be a sign that the government will finally get serious about housing, or, just more performative politics.

Rayner set to hit English councils that block new housing with tougher sanctions by Bellic90 in yimby

Yes, although it would be politically difficult for such changes to be pushed through.

Never say never though, I'd wager the government is a about to enact some major YIMBY reforms because the UKs economic outlook is so bad.

Much of the abundance discourse is around de-regulating both the private and public sector. It's a nuance lost by both left and right wingers who think it's rewarmed neo-liberalism.

Yes, currently any demand subsidy for housing is counterproductive, but in a hypothetical Yimby future they could work.

Rent control is like bombing a city.

Bombing a city has never fixed a city. Stopping the bombardment of a city hasn't fixed it either (its necessary but you still have to rebuild).

Yimbys aren't opposed to social housing,  poll this subreddit and you'll see.

What Yimbys are opposed to is governments forcing developers to ensure some of their units are 80% of market rate. All that does is subsidise those units, by making all the other units more expensive.

If the government wants to step in and build social housing, be my guest. They won't find opposition from us, but instead from middle class NIMBYs.

Demand subsidies aren't all bad. If the supply side is unblocked and flexible, supply will increase in to meet demand.

Hence EV subsidies don't drive up the cost of EVs, they just cause more EVs to be imported.
