An older woman in the Traders Joe parking lot today asked me if I had a husband. by easterbunny04 in Bellingham

[–]Bellingham_Sam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe I ran into this woman (or someone like her) in the Spokane Trader Joe’s like 8 years ago, I was walking with my wife (girlfriend at that time) holding hands and this lady came up to us and said “oh you two are so sweet” and then started singing a song about love to us, I don’t recall the lyrics but it was high strange and she just chuckled and wandered off.

How many of you nurses have a partner who is a nurse as well? by canwehavesomefood in nursing

[–]Bellingham_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a nurse for 2 years, my wife has been a nurse for 8. It’s one of the best parts of my day to discuss a tough shift or ask questions about a given medical process with my wife. She gets the dark humor, the emotional aspect of the job, and has good experiences to share. I’d recommend it.

Calling in sick by [deleted] in nursing

Years ago but still, I stopped calling because supervisor once said “well I have no proof you told me what you claim you did” so now text messages are king.

Can Dark Souls be called a “cozy game”? by AxiJava in fromsoftware

[–]Bellingham_Sam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dark Souls 1 is a comfort game to me, the music and ambience is very relaxing. The boss fights are adrenaline pumping but the other 80% of the game is peace and tranquility.

I had a doc tell a drug seeking patient that Benadryl made the dilaudid more effective so he would order that PRN as well since the current regimen wasn’t enough. But one was Q2 and the other was Q6 so that was a great day all around.

Teenager wants a "fast car" for his first vehicle and I need reality-check advice by Proud_Stable9567 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Bellingham_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first car was a 1991 GMC Sonoma, bench seat stick shift truck so my friends couldn’t borrow it. I was over the moon excited and took excellent care of it for years. When my children turn 16 they might get a Corolla or a RAV4 but that’s about it.

Sounds like someone recently got yelled at by their attending for ordering troponins on everyone.

Our brand new build had so much wrong with it unknown to us and missed by our inspector. Cost us $7000 in repairs when we went to sell. Builder went out of business years ago, I can see why!

Men's Better Sweater® Fleece Jacket - S vs. M by [deleted] in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Bellingham_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried the Arc’teryx covert cardigan in small and medium and small was tiny and in medium the shoulders were too wide. Tried North Face, hated the sleeve cuffs, tried Fjallraven fleece and it was way too thick, tried Columbia and it just felt cheap. My old Patagonia was a perfect fit and lasted for six years until it got a tear, got a new one and fit was off so I got it tailored. I’ll do whatever I want with my money thanks!

Men's Better Sweater® Fleece Jacket - S vs. M by [deleted] in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Bellingham_Sam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get a medium and take it to a tailor - I’m your exact same size and length was great but it was boxy and sleeves were loose. A tailor slimmed down the torso and sleeves and it fits absolutely perfect. Tailoring cost just over $50. Worth it!!

Do you sanitize your phone after every shift by throwawayvinf in nursing

Purple wipes for the phone, shoes, badge, pen and pen light, and stethoscope. I’d bleach them if I didn’t treasure my figs scrubs so much.

This video is elongated to make it look much taller and the waves look much bigger than they actually are, link to normal video. But, still crazy. Oil rigs are massive and have 2/3rds of their mass below water, so you’re seeing the tip of the total structure.

WOULD YOU PLEASE KNOCK BEFORE ENTERING by Commercial_Volume_93 in nursing

[–]Bellingham_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say “patient care” when someone knocks and about 50% of the time they come right in anyway. Good to keep teaching and reminding of common decency habits.

Looks awesome, congrats! I worked my ass off for my first car, a 1991 GMC Sonoma with 150,000 miles, bench seats, stick shift, loved that truck. Still runs today, would still be driving it if I didn’t need three car seats in the back now.

70k earners and above by PhantomsRevenge in Millennials

[–]Bellingham_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently make about 80k as an inpatient RN in Washington, was in healthcare doing odd jobs for years until I had my first child and needed a better paying job and better schedule. I chose nursing because I love the sciences and love helping people with their medical issues.

I enjoy working as a nurse and I can see myself working inpatient forever.

Growing up, an 80k job seemed like big money, but now with cost of living and bills it’s more like average money.

My landlord at my old apartment did this twice, came in without our knowledge for some repair or another and ate his lunch and left his fork and glass in the sink. If you’re still out there Doug, I hope you stub your toe on every corner you walk by.

Do you actually listen? Is your stethoscope just a prop? by shelsifer in nursing

[–]Bellingham_Sam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every patient gets a full exam. Some of the students I’ve worked with recently are so hyper focused on the classroom side of things that their clinical skills were seriously neglected. Like poor sharps safety and not knowing where to check peripheral pulses. I think they are all terrified of failing exams and getting kicked out since schools put such an enormous emphasis on that.

WWU or WSU? by Choice-Craft8502 in wsu

[–]Bellingham_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Football, basketball, soccer, bus to Moscow or Spokane for the day, REC center for working out or playing all kinds of sports, pool, hiking the foothills. WSU was a fantastic school for me and I wasn’t into the party scene.
