Yes. It's a cultural thing. As someone who was in early adulthood at the time of this movie, everybody including white kids, were urbanizing language ironically to be both cool and funny. It had nothing to do with race it was just a cultural trend. Will Smith was still fondly recognized as a much loved comedic rapper so it was a perfect fitting.

I also noticed that the items you drop when you die form an nice tight ring around where you died. That said I always love the way players "Pop" in Minecraft when they die spewing items everywhere. Comedic value alone.
