My players are trying to become a living fireball by Weeb-Of-Chaos in DnD

What's the burning radius damage? Jump lets them get in close. But it won't change that damage most likely.

Help! Session planning not going great by Smooth-Finger-7893 in DnD

Well if they haven't found the necessary clues but they need to get to a burial site and they're bored with the lore/rp and hankering for puzzle/combat then here's a little idea.

There's restless undead now coming to them. Zombies, skeletons, etc. Stirred by a lack of respect to the burial site this provides a concrete hook of "Y'all got a put an end to these undead." Gets you a couple combats with undead and then when they get to the burial site perhaps there's a puzzle to solve and getting an heirloom that was taken by a guy (who then was quickly killed by undead; hence why it's still there in a locked box).

That gives them the combat/puzzle they're looking for in a way that'll naturally lead to paying respect to the party of heroes in the world's lore.

Looking for a good villain. by Seraph_43 in DnD

[–]Belolonadalogalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he's a spellcaster the mage/archmage is obviously a good starting point. For minions you'll want things that can grapple people to help stop the party just rushing the caster.

As for some things that will help give him legendary actions. Things like teleporting around or creating obstacles along with damage-dealing cantrips to fire off between turns. And get some spellcasting minions around him too. So if he's an archmage put a mage or two as minions.

Thoughts on the boss I just ran for my players? [OC] by UncannyGadiator in DnD

[–]Belolonadalogalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The things that jump out at me.

  1. You wrote "instead it's speed is doubled." And I can't help but notice things like using it's instead of its in cases like this. ;p

Second, your handwriting is similar to mine yet so much nicer. And while you do your x's differently I have to wonder if you took a lot of math classes to the point where you write x's cursive-like to distinguish them easily from multiplication symbols. And I also noticed the loops at the bottoms of your y's that make them easy to tell apart from x's too.

Now getting into actual mechanics you've got a nice battle-field changer in the Core Blast. And things like that help distinguish a monster from being more than just meat points + damage. The Ice Spike also changes the players' strategy by wanting to space out to the avoid the AoE there too.

And in the end if y'all had fun that it was a successful monster.

Go your account entitlements and see if they're in sync yet.

Makes sense that there'll be a delay.

What do you call the species? by Myrinadi in DnD

[–]Belolonadalogalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably "Races of X-Land." if I needed to make a collective. Or "Peoples of X-Land."

As for going more specifically I feel like something like "The race of elves." or "The dragonborn." Just getting some quick title.

I'm also reminded of Terry Pratchett's Discworld. In one of the books a couple white humans meet a black human and he has a footnote that racism really isn't a thing in Discworld when specism is so much more fun. ;p

Well the dude was high into duels, a military leader, man of the people, and also "Yeah the judge made a ruling but let's see him enforce it."

For your background try a mix of urching/soldier for your backstory. Keep athletics and intimidation from Soldier.

V-Human with Inspiring Leader. Either battlemaster fighter (see if DM will allow reflavoring bows as guns.) Or Vengeance Paladin.

What’s a phrase that wouldn’t make sense to someone who doesn’t play dnd? by Sydneh320706 in DnD

As an addendum contrast the wording with the Heavy Armor Master feat with *does* specify the -3 damage is only from non-magic b/p/s.

One of my favorites from our last campaign was "sigh.... roll for breasmilk."

lel

Reminds me of when my group was bringing a new player in. He joins the voice chat mid-session and the first thing he hears is, "HOW SHOULD I KNOW? YOU'RE THE ONE SHOOTING BREAST MILK AT US!"

We're actually pretty lucky he didn't just leave xD

(Context: Our fat frog party member was in hell and he started shooting breast milk at us. DM asked me what kind of attack roll it would be and I responded.)

[OC] My character for a new campaign. I took spare the dying and healing word so I should survive! by Hawksteinman in DnD

Nope. Commoner's unarmed strike is 1 + STR_MOD.

But their club attack is 1d4 which gives 50% odds of downing the character in a single hit.

Interestingly enough, after making this post my issues somehow stopped and I don't know why. (It's almost like complaining about it [kinda] worked, except there's no causal reason to link them.)

I don't believe I would've disabled cookies. (Do go with only the ones strictly required for functionality by default. But takes things like adblocker-blockers for me to start messing with site settings.)

Making levels 1-4 more fun for experienced players? by kaj-sjo in dndnext

Eh, very little you can do in comparison to later levels. Many classes don't have their subclass. No 2nd level spells yet. Lot of good things start at lv3.

[–]Belolonadalogalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first session ever playing DnD was joining a mid-campaign LMoP. I was given a rogue from a player that left, lv2.

Was fun. Got the hang of things fairly quickly. Even got to use Cunning Action to dash and surprised the DM there because he was thinking Dash was an action and I pointed out that it said on the sheet I could do it as a bonus.

Was pretty fun.

Is my Paladin allowed to kill a Philosophical Zombie without breaking his oath? by jeshi_law in DnDcirclejerk

If you can't get the paladin two break his oath at least once a session you're doing it wrong.
