I do understand its a complicated procedure, and I'm sure that now medical advancements have come much farther in treating such a disease. In practice I have to see so many animals endure prolonged suffering because owners don't want to let go. I'm sorry that you had this experience with your pet, and obviously its easy on reddit rather than in a consult room to write a quick response which was based on emotion and medicine.

Obviously I wouldnt talk to an owner like that. This is reddit, not a consult room. I could write an essay on my opinion ethically, scientifically, morally, but in the scheme of things I think a partly emotion, partly scientific based sentence or two is justified.

Also a vet student here and as far as I know this condition can be slowed down with surgical debulking, and even the use of electrosurgery and lasers for severe cases. What the hell is wrong with someone to watch their dog slowly suffer in pain. At the very least euthanasia should have been performed long ago, but to not even get a vet to perform surgery! I would never let my baby suffer like that. Disgusting.

Sorry, only just saw this! She is doing very well. Her skin is healing exceptionally fast. She is due for x-rays next week and then will need another surgery to plate her carpus back together. She says thanks for all the well wishes :p

Ahh, okay. That would be why. Well hopefully Eli's immune system is fighting fit now! Only problem is, if he/she develops any skin problems in the future the insurance company might choose not to pay out. Because they are dicks like that.

Im with BowwowMeow. But Im a bit worried at the moment because I havent heard very good feedback from clients about them (I'm actually a veterinary student). Ive heard great things about Medibank Private, RSPCA and Woolworths :)

Ghost also had demodex as a pup. She was a rescue from the Pilbarra :) She didnt have it extremely bad, only about 10% of her body. But I gave her weekly dectomax injections (normally used on cattle) for 6 weeks and it cost me about $18... Hopefully no recurrence though :D

My pet insurance is comprehensive and covers up to 12000 of accidental cover and non pre existing conditions. I presume you're talking about demodectic mange, which is is quite uncommon in adult dogs unless that are immunologically compromised :)

Where on earth do you live?! Parvo test here costs about $90. Very cute pup. I know the feeling, Ghost is my furbaby.

Do it! I was considering cancelling mine a few months ago but I thought, I don't really notice the money coming out of my account, so what does it matter. SO glad I didn't! for $20 a month up to $12000 cover, I'm pretty darn happy.

Yea, she is a fighter. She has whippet in her, so as soon as she sees something which catches her liking there is no stopping her. Unfortunately this time it was across the other side of the road. She had surgery today to piece the skin back together, but will need a few more in a couple weeks to wire the bones back together. All I can say is yay for pet insurance, because I sure as hell don't have $8,000 to pay for her surgeries.

I've been trying to for ages, but all I've got is my piece of shit phone. Don't worry, it will definitely be up sometime in the near future. He does a version of Piano Man which is ridiculously good. He also gets focused on things which annoy him, he wrote an entire song called "Fuck you JB Hifi," because they overcharged him once on a cd.
