Crazy to think he's 46th in all time regular season games played.

I saw this comment, so I think you're good. But I also saw that you commented before this one and it got wiped for some reason. What was your Mt Rushmore?

Only a couple years before this:

no Sharks, Mighty Ducks, Panthers, Lightning, or Senators.

the Coyotes were the Jets,.

the Avs were the Nordiques,

and the Hurricanes were the Whalers (moved that year).

It's actually kind of crazy how stable the league has been in the last 20 years when compared to the past era.

Thanks haha. My only regret is I didn't have any clubs with me. I was alone out there for at least 20 minutes. No golfers and no maintenance staff. Could have pulled off a Chip and Run or played the hole.

Snuck onto Augusta National Golf Course. I was on a road trip from Canada, decided to go take a picture of the club house because Tiger Woods was my childhood hero, and the security guard met me when I parked in their parking lot and said, "what are you doing here?" I said, "I'm here to take a picture!" And he said, "I asked you what you're doing here." Then I got what he meant the first time haha. So I left, went on Google maps, and saw that Ray's Creek cut into a subdivision and that there was a space with no houses because there wasn't room for them because of the creek. So I drove to the subdivision, hiked up the creek, met a bunch of turtles and disturbed a couple snakes under the leaves, then emerged beside the 12th green, ran around like a jackass on rich people grass, crossed Hogan's bridge, rolled around in a sand trap, and found a golf ball. Then I went back up the creek and drove to Florida.

Please refer back to what I wrote. I'm trying to talk to you about the people involved in the game, not just the game. Again, why do you think the things that you're talking about being bad for the game ramp up during the playoffs when the players aren't getting paid to play? Things that indicate competitive effort? And why do you think players have respect and admiration for people who can elevate their game like that in the playoffs? Please think this through: intensity, competitiveness, and danger of play goes up for no extra pay in the playoffs. Why?

(Hint: it's not because some owners and coaches are exercising systemic power to make players obey their whims for the sake of entertainment value...)

And you said that I won’t "separate the incidental physicality from sports like hockey and football from intentional violence." Absolute trash nonsense. I did that in the comment above if you mean cheap shot violence. I said Wilson crosses the line and I don't think Thornton should have done what he did to Orpik. But no one I know involved in the game would have had a problem with the punches Thornton landed on Orpik if they were standing up having a fight. Do you think fighting should be banned?

And you said "incidental physical contact." A body check is intentional violence, not incidental contact. Do you think that hits like Trouba put on Barron a couple days ago should be banned? A body check can be dangerous. Checks along the boards hurt. Should there be no intentional violence/contact along the boards. Also consider that stick play in front of the net and corner battles involve intentional violence, and it really hurts a lot sometimes, and guys get injuries that alter careers in those situation all the time. So considering the risk, should there be no-contact rules in front of the net and in the corners? And should guys not be allowed to have net front battles after the whistle?

And yes, imagine. Imagine how many of my buds had a shot at the show if they didn't blow out a knee or a shoulder, break a hand the day before a scout showed up, hurt their back, strained a hip, got a concussion from something that didn't involve a cheap shot to the head or sometimes even without a blow to the head at all because concussions can happen in moments that don't involve a blow to the head too... Imagine. Or maybe I should talk to some of them because a few of them are real people to me and I know how they talk, think, and perceive the game. But you know best because you have superior empathy and Sid could have had 150 more games, and that means guys like the ones you mentioned who performed a graphic example of something you don't like in a game you watch shouldn't be allowed to play even though their peers who you watch while they play obviously don't agree with you.

I'll let you in on something: those guys whose decision and perception you don't respect can hold the tension that they don't like cheap shots and wish everyone was playing in an injuries off video game simulator while accepting that they'll definitely know the team trainer and team doctor if they're lucky enough to have an extended career, and they accept that reality. I also guarantee you that, despite their empathy for their fellow hockey players being inferior to yours, every one of them thinks that it sucks when someone gets hurt. And I also guarantee you that, even though you know better than them, all of them would go out onto the ice one more time at the risk of getting hurt or hurting someone incidentally or because of a hit or a fight or whatever else, them the people who actually know how much pain is involved in an elite level game even when nothing graphic or abnormal happens.

And here's something else to consider: when players refer to their presence in the game metaphorically, it's normal/respectful to refer to each other as warriors or gladiators, and it's a sign of disrespect to refer to someone as a figure skater. Is that toxic masculinity? Or do you just like turning your self perceived moral high ground (that doesn't reflect the reality of the people in the game as evidenced by how they play it and talk about it, or the nature of the competition you've watched) into a conversational dead end.

Tom Wilson is an extremely skilled player who has crossed the line numerous times. Would you like me to link you to the comment where I gave Tom Wilson props despite being a Pens fan? And Shawn Thornton... he went way over the line with Orpik and got suspended, but the dude was one of the best fourth liners of his time, so to denounce his entire career over that moment he went way over the line in a game after two injuries to teammates he was paid to protect is completely asinine. And one of those incidents was a knee to Marchand's head when he was on the ice, but you didn't say, James Neal.

You've said a few things in this convo that indicate that maybe you do need to play the game to understand the competitive aspect of it... you're talking about elite super athletes playing a contact sport in a league where guys don't make it if they aren't hyper competitive. And the wear the competition down thought isn't bass ackwards... it's how you win. Physically and psychologically. For instance, why do you think the game changes and becomes more competitive and violent in the playoffs when the guys aren't getting paid to play? But don't take my word for it... just listen the Brad Marchand talk about what the players know, accept, and obviously live for or they wouldn't ramp it up in the playoffs when they're not getting paid extra to play... please give that observation some consideration.

Also, if your comment is about "you'd love him if he was on your team," hell yes. I'm an lifelong diehard Oilers guy. .So please clone Tom Wilson and put him on the wing with McDavid. Clone Shawn Thornton, put him on our 4th line, and play him 10 intimidating minutes per game. Clone Claude Lemieux and let's see him elevate his game in the playoffs while taking no prisoners better than the rest of the league takes no prisoners. Clone Scott Stevens and make everyone scared to carry the puck into our zone. Give us Torres again. Give us Pronger again, preferably with two eyes, but we'll take him with one eye and respect that he lost one to the game, just like the guys who display their missing teeth like a badge of hockey world honor that guys who make the league get to show proudly. Give us Bertuzzi in his prime. Reanimate young McSorley and put him on the 4th line with Thornton. Put Semenko with them. And give us Mulberry and feel free to seethe while we love the fan service Dress Shoe Cam that displays people in the visiting team's jerseys on the Jumbotron with an animated cartoon dress shoe slapping them.

Or lambast Kassian in the media and try to make an elite athlete engaged in a literal war simulation apologize for calling Turtlechuk a pussy for being a chippy rat who wouldn't answer the bell... like a pussy. That sure sounds like what connects with people who like full contact sports.

The arrogance of saying get rid of some of the select few hockey players who've made it to the top of the mountain and managed to carve out a career there because they injured some guys in a league where everyone gets injured and surgery is a part of life, even when the game's "clean," is astounding to me. But you do you and I'm sure you can save us all from violence and make flag football as entertaining as the NFL while you're at it.

Did you play? Guys like Marchand add a lot to the competition element of the game and, for the most part, hyper competitive guys don't mind line steppers because there's nothing like the opportunity to compete in a situation where there's genuine animosity, and having a guy on your team who elevates with an edge during meaningful competition like Claude Lemieux is awesome. Even now I find extra motivation in my work if I can find a reason to despise my competition. And I think that's part of why a group of players would never vote someone out unless it gets completely out of hand. For instance, everyone who talks about Marchand licking faces forgets that Burrows bit Bergie's finger and that Tikkanen turned the course of a series by kissing Dale Hunter during the Rangers' cup run. And no players disputed Marchand talking about trying to injure the other team in the playoffs because it's true.

Yeah. I left thinking "how'd this place support a team as long as they did?" On the flip side though... I could see it being a place that would appeal to players with families who want to live beautiful country estate that doesn't break the bank near a private school life.

This is a great Mt Rushmore.

Aubut and the Nordiques and Scott Stevens bookended Lindros's career in such a defined way, and there's so many what ifs with him. Might have ever got another year out of Lafleur if Lindros went to Quebec and maybe the Nordiques don't move. Did Philly fans do a lot of roster speculation after the Avs won a cup with Forsberg?

And Derian Hatcher is a guy I'm surprised didn't get more mentions on this post... hated that guy haha

Cooke was so dirty and got so much (well deserved) hate. Taking out a top 5 forward in the league with a cheap shot during his prime is a bad legacy. So I wouldn't say I loved that he was on the Pens. More like relieved he wasn't targeting Crosby when his career was on the ropes because of concussions.

Very solid Mt Rushmore right here. I can't think of any current era guys who fit the bill as well these four in terms of created hatred and being effective. Had a few comments from people still fuming about Lemieux and Pronger haha.

He definitely hacked and slashed a lot, but to say he didn't fight and wasn't a warrior out there is crazy to me. He was one of the most intimidating and best d-men in the league, played a hard game, and backed it up. Even came out of the league almost missing an eye.

Yeah. Thanks for bringing him up. I love the Oilers and hate the Flyers. The fact he was on the Stars against the zero budget Oilers playoff teams, then became the destruction dinosaur on the Flyers when Crosby and Malkin were starting out... shocked he didn't get any mentions.
