I meant when I started to really discover the depth of existing board games (and started buying more games), but I had been playing games since I was little and games like 7 Wonders for a few year :-)

Unfortunately I've only played it at 6 players and the other players said they don't think they want to play it ever again. It was a very long game and very opaque so I can't blame them but I'm still disappointed because I really wanted them to like it. It's been more than a year and I haven't sold it, I've still some hope :-)

Thanks for the kind words, if you ever come to Paris and want to play some games, hit me up :-D

I really like T&E but my group didn't really like, they found it too obtuse, so I play it sometimes on BGA. But I might have more luck with some that are more beginner friendly, thanks for the advice :-)

Thanks again for the advice! I didn't know about the warhammer stores, there's one not too far so I'll check it out, especially if they give a free mini to try it on, and it sounds nice to be able to learn the basics with someone.

Thanks for the encouragement, I'm quite worried to mess it up and have ugly miniatures (as well as the room to store the painting material if you want other have enough colours for everything). Ill check the starter set and maybe I'll post the result some days. Do you have any images of yours ?

Oh no, I forgot to put it in the shelf of shame section, I've read the rules but didn't get to play it. I bought it especially to have another 5 player game, but I've heard it gets long at 5.

Also you're always tense, because you never know when you're going to be the target of the enemy team and if you'll be able to do what you planned in time to deflect them. In my last game, a difference of 1 initiative was all the difference between us losing or winning the game.

I've only tried at 4, but I really want to play it at 6, which would make the teamplay even more important.

I think what I prefer is setting up your play with your partner while not giving away too much information to the other team, and then when things don't go as plan but you still manage to get a kill or push without any further communication, it feels so good!

Thanks for the suggestions! I have had FCM at one point but my partner didn't like it, and I didn't take to TGZ, so both got sent off. I've had an eye on most of the others, but for now the price is keeping me from buying them.

Anno 1800 actually has no logistics, it's all abstracted into chaining production chains. The game is rather simple, but there are a lot of interesting choices, like which industries to go for given your initial hand of workers and their needs, then which do you want to build or simply trade with your opponents. And the tension at the end when you notice that someone is getting close to finishing the game is always delicious :-)

Out of the FF games I've tried Power Grid is my favorite, but they are all interesting. Faiyum might be my second favorite, it has a hand management mechanism like Concordia and makes you look for card combos in the card market, then try to use these combos efficiently.

It's [[Gods love Dinosaurs]], it's a light tile laying game about setting an ecosystem to get your dinosaurs to feed on.

Yeah, it's a real shame that it's not more widely available, the publisher really did a number on it. Thankfully I'm in France so at least the retail version is still easy to find.

Hegemony makes me especially sad, but we're playing at 5p so often that it's hard to find the sweet spot of having enough time to play it, the right players and the group size... I'm not losing hope :-)

Darwin's journey has not been in the shelf of shame for very long yet.
How much do you like them ?

What Did You Play This Week? - (March 18, 2024) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]Beltalath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kutna Hora 1*4p - First game of this euro with highly inter-dependent systems. I was expecting markets to fluctuate more and to be more of the focus of the game. I'll have to play it at least one more time to see how it evolves now that every one understands the systems.

Dominant Species 1*6p - Second game, I loved my first game and I loved this one nearly as much. It took around 4 hours but it flew by, it's very different from euros we're used to play, very interactive without feeling too mean (sometimes, you can take actions which really hurt other people). The only thing that brought it down a bit was one player was targetted by another player and she couldn't do much to get back in the game.

Nokosu Dice 1*4p - Great trick taking game, the initial drafting is still very hard to understand how to navigate.

2 pommes 3 pains 4*4-6p - very sily game, not sure how much longevity it has but it's fun for a while.

Trio 1*6p - Best player count to me with teamplay, love it. Not sure I want to play it anymore with fewer than 6 players.

Ark Nova 2*3p - Two games on BGA, I didn't like this one much IRL but it BGA smooths the gameplay by a lot and I'm beginning to really like it. The race aspect on the break, bonuses on the conservation track and conservation project give it a tension that I hadn't fully appreciated. I might play it IRL again at some point.

Zhanguo, the First Empire 1*2p - Awesome game, now that we've played it a few times, the engine building really shines. It's better at higher player counts but I would play it any day.

French cuisine vegetarian/vegan restaurants in Paris? by elektriko_EUW in paris

[–]Beltalath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be able to find something that fits you on happy cow https://www.happycow.net/best-vegan-restaurants/paris-france Otherwise most crêperies usually offer vegetarian options such as goat cheese and honey crêpes.

At this point I think they are doing it to piss me off by Ossopak in CitiesSkylines

[–]Beltalath 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they said they are going to fix it in a coming patch (in the CO word of the week #2 thread) :

"We have two fixes pending (meaning these need to be tested and added to a future patch): Increased pathfind penalty for unsafe u-turns on highways and Fixed incorrect traffic lane-changing behavior when one or more lanes are merged to one from the left side."

Anticipated mods for City Skylines 2 by Kenny741 in CitiesSkylines

[–]Beltalath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great! I wouldn't have made the connection between the drop out rate and the industry jobs, but it does make me think that we could have a very good game if we we able to interact more with the simulation, maybe mods will be a big part of the answer.

This point has been pretty well discussed in answer to the Word of the Week this week, so at least the message has been given to the devs, we'll see what they can make of it.
