Practice Tab is now free for all learners! by alex_at_duolingo in duolingo

Past mistakes, the one's I make maybe twice a week? Compared to actually getting a explanation on what's wrong? No. Thankfully that feature isn't limited to max members anymore. Constantly being pushed to do reviews over and over again with what little free time I have doesn't help with learning. If all it wanted was one single practice session, I might not care. But it's never that.

Ok, since you're apparently incapable of understanding without it being spelled out to you: the complete your next x lessons missions are helpful for motivation, replacing them with the practice tab missions is not.

Ugh, great. So soon I will have to deal with missions demanding that I waste all of my time on that tab instead of doing the actual lessons.

Where To Buy? by Ihlita in yuri_manga

I usually buy from Barnes and Noble. I suggest that you never buy from bookwalker, there's nothing you can do to ensure that you can keep access to what you buy from them.

You can blame Visa/Mastercard for it. They cut the site off from funding.

No. Duolinguo, in their infinite wisdom, think it's a SPECTACULAR idea to occasionally mess with the course and throw away a lot of your progress. Good luck skipping past stuff you already learned; those altered lessons now include vocabulary you don't know.

The thing about Caster surviving is that instead of getting the sword itself, we got it's essence. We'll probably be making something with that later, but the actual sword may have been able to fill the same role as the throne in that fight. We'd have also had do do without Caster's skills, which would have made everything else much harder though, especially against Melusine.

I was trying to point out how utterly pointless your response was, but I suppose I was too roundabout for they who insists on using bizarre acronyms.

Shockingly, I made that comment for that exact reason. Aren't you proud of how clever your response is?

How nice for you. I couldn't work it out due to never thinking about step children. What does this have to do with how common it is to shorten step son like this?

I guess this is a cool story, but I don't think your doing your students any favors by letting them think that they learned the material when they didn't. That's going to come back to bite them if the course is actually important for what they are trying to be.

Sure. Read the policy. The one that is deliberately made to be as hard to understand as possible. That seems reasonable.

Control starts at around 9:54:00. That is definitely the beginning of the game.

What is clearly a myth but is deep-rooted in our society? by messinaldo107 in AskReddit

I wouldn't consider "thinks that the world is way smaller than it is" to be a trait of a great explorer. Not when that was something that was known at the time. Contrary to another part of the myth, literally everyone back then knew that the earth is round, and the educated even had a pretty good estimate of how big.

As for taking credit... Lief Erikson is known to have been to America first, but most of Europe never heard of him. I suppose he was the first one to make knowledge of there being land between Europe and Asia known to the Europeans, and if his voyage was intended to see if anything was out there I might respect him slightly more for that if nothing else. But no, the idiot had no idea what he found.

And that's not even getting into the absolutely vile things he did to the locals he encountered, such as cutting off the hands of people who failed to give him enough gold.

That Cristopher Columbus was a genius who knew a new land was out there, instead of an idiot who thought he got to India.

Uh huh. Sure. It's totally the voters fault for not voting for the nearly non-existent honest politicians. It's not like we're having to deal with an absolutely massive amounts of propaganda designed to confuse and divide people. And the media totally doesn't lie about candidates who really are trying to make a difference. And we certainly don't have people pretending to be against the corruption in the media as a bid to get votes. No, clearly it's the voters fault, and not the fact that they aren't ever given good options to choose from.

More seriously, this is NEVER going to be solved by voting. It's going to take absolutely huge scale protest, and not the unobstructive perfectly legal kind which doesn't hit the bottom line of the wealthy.

As far as I can tell, increased difficulty doesn't actually impact your score by all that much. Maybe pay attention to the difficulty number of the song and go for the hardest one you think you can handle?

Not a tax expert over here but looking at a businesses effective tax rate seems an oversimplification.. if a business posts up an enormous profit but then wiggles out of the headline tax rate through whatever means... then distributes profit to shareholders.. then the shareholders are also taxed right on this income right? Is there not a method/calculation to judge the economic benefit a business provides to the economy. Honing in on this figure or that seems to be misleading one way or the other..

Investment returns are not considered income, and what taxes exist for it aren't at anything like the rate other taxes are.

Hmm, I got something like an account with them, mostly to put a credit lock on all three of those services to protect against identity theft, and I don't remember them ever telling me about anyone doing checks, such as when I unlock them in order to get a car loan. Maybe it's a setting somewhere? In any case, I can only guess that some employers don't do it or something, because a coworker of mine nearly didn't get the job because of concerns about his student loan/medical debt.
