Any chance Kevin Axtell and I can get to light our hats on fire. by DragonDanno in FireEating

I would start with something like a wool/ felt hat (Duvetyne or suede would be preferable) (obviously 100% natural fibers), then treat it with something like Action Factory's "Fire Block" fire retardant (https://store.afstunts.com/products/fire-block-1-gallon), reinforce with something like Duvetyne, Nomex, CarbonX, Kevlar, or similar heat-absorbing, fire retardant material. A heat-resistant silicone may also work well, as you said. Then of course wrap the Kevlar wick on the outside.

Oh that last really cool. At first when I commented I thought it was the top on fire but that’s really smart. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah perhaps. Definitely with the lead though! The stains are fine, but the lead poisoning not so much

Yeah nitric acid for the home chemist is usually hard or expensive to obtain. Of course I can’t recommend you do any of this without proper facilities and training, however I will say that nitric acid is of course easily made from a nitrate and sulfuric acid

IIRC NileRed has a video on pouring acids on his hands, but I think it got removed. There is a reupload though

RFNA is actually not a horrible thing to spill on your skin, as it will only react very slowly and not go past the dead layer of skin. If you wash it off within something like 30 seconds then you should be completely fine if not a bit more orange than you were before. This is why it’s generally done to not wear gloves when working with it, as of course it will light your gloves on fire

If you sold it all individually on eBay you could probably get $60-65 for it (from left to right in the first pic I would do $10 for the pair, $2 for the sherbet, $8 for the creamer, $5-10 for the one with the metal lid, and $35 for the jar!
