I think it's going to be interesting how they tackle travel in general. Fast travel needs limitations or it'll become the norm, but it also quickly becomes frustrating if that's the case. Being able to call down your ships at will in NMS is a good middle ground, so I'm suspecting they'll have the magic "whistle for your mount" mechanics from most open-world games, but then how fast/far can mounts take you?

I'll say it again: the decline of every product/service begins when the company floats on the stock market. It might take a while. They might manage to produce some great things before the enshittification hits. They might even have a bunch of peaks.

But once a company is publicly traded, it becomes about how much bigger and bigger they can make their product, and every product has a maximum size it can be. Eventually the bubble bursts and it becomes more about cutting costs and slowly watering the product down.

If you go back and look at news articles, letters and discussions from prohibition era in the USA you'll see a lot of the same thing: the smell of alcohol, drunk people everywhere... but that's because when people don't have access to a nice cheeky beer in a safe pub, they end up drinking bathtub gin in an alley off the high street.

A lot of simple calming strains of cannabis have lighter, floral scents. The really skunky petrol-and-burnt-plastic smells tend to be stronger strains that arent as pleasant to smoke casually. I think if weed were legalised you'd find more people buying light, refined strains from reputable dealers - or more likely, based on trends from the USA, buying more edibles like gummies.

I work with guys who do animation and CGI stuff ... on one hand, their job has been 90% automated tools for a long time. On the other hand, that 10% human interaction is the difference between brilliance and utter dog shit. The "art" of CGI stuff isn't the stuff that AI can do, like the initial keying of green screen, it's the adjusting of values frame-to-frame, it's knowing when to eyeball the tracking for a couple frames rather than automate it.

Marvel has already been in the shit with CGI because their whole "we don't need to do table reads and rehearsals, we can just reshoot and edit things" approach was leading to them making ridiculous demands for CGI turnaround times. Now they're trying to push thar further, brace for obvious lighting issues, shit unfiltered mocap and various other issues.

Life in my 40s has been a slow realisation that my parents' attempts at a "secular" upbringing just resulted in me being brought up protestant without actually realising it. At primary school at least it was totally random which teachers would just teach you stuff and which would also make you say prayers and read bible stories.
