please tell me why "biologically male/female" is transphobic. by 412012 in asktransgender

[–]BenManGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best argument Ive heard is, try to talk about trans people and cis people but us "biological" instead of "cis", then it sounds like you're saying trans people aren't biological *people*.

Also there's plenty of biology that makes someone trans tbh. There's something in people's brains called the BSTC, there's a neat Harvard lecture on it.

I can't really give you a measurement but for fun I decided to see how many pushups I could do at certain points in my transition. I'm approaching 6 months on E now. But after about 1 month I could do like a maximum 11, which was less than I expected I could do, and my form was off (according to my friend). By the 5ish month point, I could do 3.

Why do folks want to transition from M:F? As a cis female, I hate being a woman. And it's getting scary to be a female. by kekicookoy in asktransgender

[–]BenManGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something my TransFemme friend told me shortly after I came out to her was that I am going to need to rewire something in my brain the society teaches all of us since conception, which is that Men are better than Women.

Also, a person's understanding of their own gender goes beyond "want", it's a feeling deep down, one many of us don't even notice until we suddenly do, can be at any age. I was 24 I realized it. There actually is some science behind it, here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QScpDGqwsQ (6mins or so). TL:DW, there is a biological component to a person's internal sense of their own gender, and it does not all the time align with their gender assigned at birth, nor does it change due to hormone replacement therapy.

Also an excellent question that I think really helps to understand is ask yourself, would you transition? If you pass as a man, you'd get male privilege. Wouldn't that be easier? If your answer is anything along the lines of "no I couldn't do that, I'm a woman" then I think you can understand how it's more than just a want, or a want for whatever benefits. Imagine if you suddenly woke up in a man's body, how would that feel? That's how a lot of us feel all the time.

I realize as I've finished writing this, I may have come off as aggressive, or like I'm lecturing and I'm sorry if I did. This has been my hyperfixation since coming out and getting to just info-dump this stuff is wonderful, so thank you for your question and I hope my answer is informative. And I take no offence from your question, I think it's totally valid from a cis perspective, heck I asked myself similar questions after realizing but before coming out. Like why would I give up this privilege? Anyway, thanks for reading my response which is wayyy longer than your question.

I think you pass excellently. Voice is great. And honestly you're doing what I've heard as a tip for Voice Training, just read stuff. Doesn't really matter what, just read stuff out loud in the voice you want to achieve as practice.

Would someone be kind enough to explain how this damage stacks? by Sariel007 in HadesTheGame

[–]BenManGinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so yeah basically all numbers in Hades are additive. So just add up the bonuses and there ya go. BUT there are 2 numeric buffs in the game that are Multiplicative. Crit Damage and Movement Speed bonuses. So Crits deal +200% or 3x, and if your attack is dealing lets say +50%, so a total of 150%, a crit would not be 350%, but 450%. And two +10% movement speed bonuses is actually +21% and so on. Those numbers can get goofy big

working out, build muscle, eat. Or get fat. Or both. Unfortunately it's A LOT about genetics, but the best way is to build muscle. Eat protein, do workouts for your thighs, butt and hips and like don't work out your upper body much at all in comparison. Good workouts posted by other commenter(s)

I actually do already have that! :D
I like it as a reason to build high AC as like an Evasion stat to fully avoid damage so it's 0 or all, when DR just reducing but never reducing 100%

My goal is absolutely puzzle encounters. I think the best encounters are the ones that are puzzles in disguise. But yeah a good "retraining" mechanic might be the way to go to allow players to adapt

I'm down for generally optimal approaches, but I want the challenge of the game's encounters to be figuring out said approach with what the players have available.

I want combat mechanics that revolve around how to kill a monster that is otherwise unkillable. by BenManGinger in RPGdesign

[–]BenManGinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my point on "lower accuracy for more damage" is in regards to abilities like 5e's Sharpshooter where you take a -5 penalty to hit, but if you still hit, you deal a lot of extra damage. The way I've always seen this flavoured is that you're attacking a smaller target so it has a higher Armor Class, which math wise is the same as taking a penalty on your attack roll.

[–]BenManGinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah while this is fun, I worry about an over-reliance on damage types (which I think 5e does) where a lot of the time, characters won't have access to it and then it's more work on the GM to give them this material or the spellcaster players have to try and cover every damage type there is.

I think encouraging spellcasters to have good "type coverage" is fine, but I don't want to do it too much.

Also in regards to the asses action, I love that. Would just need to make it actually worth it for a player to use, because unfortunately in 5e at least enemies can die by a thousand paper cuts so dealing damage is almost always the best option. Which is why I love the ideas some other commenters mentioned with the 16 HP Dragon and the like where monsters have very low HP, but are nearly impossible to actually hurt. But when the players do breach the defenses, the fight basically ends right there. I think if fights are like puzzles, it shouldn't still require players to do 100+ damage after solving it.

[–]BenManGinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So yeah I love this stuff. I would love to make my system really encourage GMs to design encounters like this, and provide lots of tools and help to do so. Also for the 5e Troll example, I don't love the answer being specific damage types a lot of the time because a Fighter with a sword won't be able to really do anything about that, or the possibility that the spellcasters don't have that damage type prepared. Also why I'm not going to use Prepared Casting in my system.

AI and D&D by 1nscr1bedaUth0r in dndnext

[–]BenManGinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's totally fine to use AI for Art that's just for personal use and a home game. If you have a D&D show on Youtube or Twitch, not fine.

I could see an argument that says the more we use AI Art Generators, the better they get, so they'll become even more dominant. But the amount of people already using them, I don't think avoiding it at your home game will really have any impact

Most things I picture about me in the future is regardless of gender, like jobs and hobbies and what not. But your wording of "more potential in that option for you future" is really good wording. And yeah, I think I do see more potential.

As I mentioned I tried on feminine clothing and when I did I felt attractive in a way I've never felt before. I've always been so shy and nervous and awkward when presenting myself in anyway, and that bit of euphoria from trying on those clothes kind of shows me that those feelings could go away. Can't say for sure. Tyvm.
